MUNA brought the Life’s So Fun tour to a sold out crowd at History in Toronto on May 14, 2023. The band started their set with a burst of energy, beginning the show with pop party anthem What I Want. The crowd immediately matched their energy, as they jumped up and down and sang along to every word. What struck us the most about MUNA’s live show was the flawless execution of their performance. Throughout the night, the band members were running across stage, hitting choreographed dance moves perfectly on beat, all while singing tight harmonies together. In addition to the…

French pianist, Sofiane Pamart, brought a show full of remarkable, intricate piano melodies to The Great Hall in Toronto on May 1, 2023. Known as the “piano king,” it quickly became clear that he’s deserving of that title as soon as he began playing a few notes. The sold out crowd was mesmerized from the moment he stepped on stage, and throughout each song he performed. In what felt like a really magical night, the whole room remained still, except for a couple that were slow dancing to the music at the back of the crowd. We were fortunate enough…
While travel was discouraged over the past few years, I contented myself with travelling through television, film, food and of course, wine. One of the places I “visited” through my glass of vino was the Rueda appellation region of Spain. And wonderfully, once travel restrictions eased, I offered the chance to tour the region with a group of fellow writers. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Our days flew by as we visited captivating cities, a variety of vineyards and a bevy of bodegas (winery in Spanish). It was a wonderful whirlwind as we explored, we learned, we ate,…
Ukrainian Canadian artist, Nastasia Y has released her latest single, Bez Vas (Without You). Nastasia grew up in Kyiv to the soundtrack of the Ukrainian resistance songs her late father would sing to her. Now, one year after the invasion, her latest single is sung in both Ukrainian and English in order to reach more people about the on-going war. In addition to Russia’s countless war crimes, missiles are purposely fired at energy facilities to wear down the citizens. While Nastasia is based in Canada, her family is living in cold and darkness this winter. However, the resilience and spirit of the Ukrainian people can be summed up by…

California indie-pop trio almost monday brought the Only Wanna Dance Tour to Toronto on February 3, 2023. If there’s one word to describe the band’s upbeat, groovy sound, it would be ‘summertime’. Imagine music blasting with the windows open on a road trip, or dancing at a beach party at sunset. This is the vibe almost monday brought to Toronto on a particularly cold winter night. With a set full of feel-good, carefree tracks and an irresistible charisma, the band had the crowd dancing and singing their hearts out all night. Borrowing elements from modern pop, mid-2000’s indie sleaze, and…
Written By: Noel Ransome, Courtesy of BLK 2.0. The story of George Sully’s ascent to the upper echelons of Canadian fashion ought to be told alongside the tale of an industry in need of systematic change. With a career that began with his own brand, Limb Apparel in 2004, the Ottawa-born, Toronto-based designer has persistently chipped away at the thick wall of bias standing between the ill-judged stereotype of Black “urban” designers, and the rightful place he has earned within the space of fashion. In addition to his outstanding record as a designer and entrepreneur, Sully is the architect of…

Meet our January Cover stars, Canadian music power couple Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida. Chantal and Raine are nothing short of Canadian rockstar legends. I remember the first time I saw an Our Lady of Peace poster in Downtown St.John’s, Newfoundland. I just loved the energy that the image gave to me. Growing up in Newfoundland you never missed an Our Lady Peace concert. Raine Maida is nothing but spectacular on stage. There is nothing like an OLP concert at a festival in St.John’s and it was no surprise when they took the stage back in August 2022 that fans…
