Innovation and skincare are two things that go hand in hand so very well. Our trusted experts at ICLS Dermatology and Plastic Surgery are always on the cutting edge when it comes to caring for our faces and bodies, and these days they are very excited about Glass Skin. A skincare trend made popular by a combination of K-beauty, viral TikToks and gorgeous, glassy looking results, “glass skin” is a term that refers to the desired results of a variety of different skincare and cosmetic medicine treatments. Those results are exactly like they sound: glass skin, meaning plump, poreless, smooth…
When most of us think about injectables like dermal fillers and neuromodulators like BOTOX® and Dysport®, we think about their cosmetic uses, to plump lips or smooth foreheads. But these treatments have a myriad of uses, from the cosmetic to the therapeutic. I spent some time with the experts at Toronto-based plastic surgery and advanced aesthetics clinic FORM Face + Body where they taught me there was more to injectables than meets the eye. Located in Toronto’s midtown, FORM Face + Body opened in 2020 under the leadership of board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Ron Somogyi or Dr. Waqqas Jalil. The…
If there’s one good thing about Halloween (I mean, there are lots of good things, but let’s pretend there’s only one), it’s binging horror movies til the zombies come home. I’ve seen way too many scary movies and I’m always looking to recommend some, as well as being constantly on the hunt for the most obscure and highly disturbing films I can find (which is often the result of a 3am deep dive on Reddit or YouTube). I admittedly struggled to keep the list to a concise 10, as I wanted to try to make some suggestions you may have…
I hate to say it but when we think of sustainability, style isn’t usually a word that joins that thought. But Native Shoes has been working to change that, especially with some of their more surprising styles. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Native Shoes is an eco-conscious brand that uses bio-based ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) blends to create comfortable, sustainable and even fashionable footwear. Their bio-based Bloom material is a blend featured in their latest collection. Bloom is created by pulling toxic algae from waterways (where it can choke the oxygen supply and harm wildlife) and mixing it with traditional EVA —…
It may be months later but I’m still dreaming of my trip to Paris and the beautiful hotels I called home for that wonderful week. I got the chance to stay in the heart of one of the most well-known and fashionable parts of Paris at the beautiful Hotel Vernet. First Impressions From the moment I stepped through the grand glass doors of the hotel and made my way up the marble stairs, I knew Hotel Vernet was something special. This exclusive boutique hotel was a hidden gem, tucked away on a sidestreet just moments from one of the…
Counting points. Commercials filled with smiling women of all shapes and sizes. Miranda attending a weight loss support group in Sex and the City, circa 2002. What do all of these things have in common? One iconic company: WeightWatchers. WeightWatchers was founded in 1963 by homemaker Jean Nidetch. Jean lived in Queens, New York, and like many women of her time, she’d tried a variety of meal plans, fad diets, medications and even hypnosis, in an effort to lose weight. While attempting yet another diet, Jean created a support group in her own apartment, with other friends on their own…

Ethel Cain may be on her Freezer Bride tour but things are only heating up for the rising star who’s quickly selling out show after show. While Hayden Silas Anhedönia is the artist behind the project known as Ethel Cain, the lines blur with lyrics meditating on love, loss and religion, layered within the Ethel Cain narrative and storytelling in her debut album Preacher’s Daughter. *photos and words by the talented Kate Killet There was a line-up down the block at doors for the show Tuesday July 19th, which had a last minute venue change from the Horseshoe Tavern…
As a summer sun lover, I’ve learned through unfortunate experience that the hot sun is like a hot tool on bleached blonde hair. Being a bottle blonde, maintenance was high, as was heat damage, meaning every visit to the hair stylist meant a trim, especially if my hair was left unprotected in the summer sun. COVID-19 cut those haircuts short for a while, leaving my hair to grow long; so long in fact, that for the first time in over a decade, I can put my hair in a ponytail! I always make sure to keep my blonde locks…
On my recent stay in Paris, France, I had the pleasure of spending another night in the beautiful 2ieme arrondissement in the heart of the city. This time, I made my temporary home at the Hôtel Edouard 7, an incomparable boutique hotel that’s as luxurious and stylish as its namesake, King Edward VII of England. The History As fans of British history, or Netflix period drama The Crown will already know, King Edward VII is the British monarch who abdicated his place on the throne to marry the love of his life, American socialite and divorcée, Wallis Simpson. Albert Edward…
