Chiiild’s Better Luck In The Next Life tour hits Toronto

Canadian genre-blending indie/soul/R&B band, Chiiild performed at the Axis Club in Toronto on March 30.

Yonatan Ayal, better known in combination with collaborator, guitarist/producer Pierre-Luc Rioux as Chiiild released their second full length album, Better Luck In The Next Life on March 3. It’s a stunning work rich in melody and deep with sonic exploration, grooves and hooks that happily stick in one’s head long after the playing has stopped. Ayal, no stranger to working a song through from idea to hit has songwriter and producer credits as xSDTRK that include Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Jessie J, Rob Thomas, Allie X, Karl Wolf, Ricky J and Jessie Labelle.

Opening with fan faves Weightless, the set moved through Pirouette and Back To Life, Rounding out the band, in addition to Rioux on guitar, multi instrumentalist Lauren Malyon added violin, cello, keyboards and backing vocals while and drummer Maxime Bellavance held a steady beat. One of the highlights of the night featured Malyon taking Charlotte Cardin’s parts on I Hope I Packed A Parachute from the new album.

The tour is winding down with only shows in Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco remaining. It would be a damn good idea to catch one of these finals shows if you can.
