Lord Sonny the Unifier saving lives with their latest release

Brooklyn-based post-punk and psych rock band Lord Sonny the Unifier is set to release their latest album, You Were Born to Save Your Life, in February 2025. Following their 2023 album, America’s Newest Hitmaker, the new release presents a conceptually driven work that explores modern society through the eyes of a time traveler. The band, led by Greg Jiritano, has continued to evolve sonically, blending elements of psych rock, psychobilly, and goth into their signature gritty sound.

Jiritano, who has long focused on the fusion of raw rock energy with deep lyrical themes, describes his approach to songwriting as highly organic. You Were Born to Save Your Life was crafted in an intimate setting, with initial compositions created on a keyboard before being expanded with synths, guitars, and bass. “I never want to write the lyrics first as I feel they might impede the vocal melody—which in the end is the most important part of any song,” Jiritano explains. This method allows the band to shape the sound before finalizing the lyrics, a process that has defined their unique style.

The album’s concept reflects on the chaos and philosophical dilemmas of contemporary life, taking a perspective reminiscent of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. With equal parts hope and despair, the songs serve as a diary of observations on human nature, rebellion, and survival. Jiritano describes it as “both a bit of stone-throwing and tree-jotting observation,” reflecting the push and pull between action and reflection.

The lead single, “Keep the Fierce,” captures this dynamic energy, offering a raucous blend of influences from Lemmy to Eagles of Death Metal to Joy Division. Its accompanying music video plays on the song’s central theme of chaos, featuring a demolition derby race that highlights both destruction and liberation. “One way to ‘Keep the Fierce,’ the song and video suggest, is to stay on the outskirts of society so one can stay wild,” the band states.

Lord Sonny the Unifier has built a reputation for channeling raw rock rebellion with a deep love for classic rock instrumentation and analog recording techniques. Their past works, including Final Notice! and All New Information, received critical acclaim, leading to a vinyl release of America’s Newest Hitmaker through Interstellar Smoke Records.

With You Were Born to Save Your Life, the band continues their journey of sonic and thematic exploration. Fans can anticipate the digital release in early 2025, followed by a vinyl release through Interstellar Smoke Records.
