4 Healthy Alternatives to Junk Food

Work can get overwhelming. At times, it feels good to reach over the table and get a few bites off that chocolate muffin. You’ll feel good for a short while but once it becomes a habit, it can lead to overeating, weight gain, and a host of weight-related diseases.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t snack. You just need to find healthier alternatives. In this article, I’ll be covering some healthy foods you can replace your candy and potato chips.

Fruits

Fruits are not only delicious, but they are rich in vitamins and minerals that are needed by our bodies to function optimally. If you’ve had a lot of constipation issues, eating fruits regularly may be able to fix this because they are rich in fibre. This brings us to another point…

Eating fruits are a great way to lose weight!

Generally, fruits that are full of fibre have relatively low calories, and they swell up in the stomach as they absorb water.  This gives you an impression of feeling full despite eating a low amount of calories.

If you struggle to get your daily dose of fruits, you can always look for a local office fruit delivery service.

Nuts

At the office, I don’t think there are many healthier options than nuts. Almonds are one of the best nuts for health, but they can get pricey. A mixed bag of unsalted nuts will do just the trick.

Nuts are packed with protein and are great for your heart health. They are rich in unsaturated fats which are also called ‘healthy’ fats. Healthy fats, especially monounsaturated fats can have been shown to reduce cholesterol in the body. Nut consumption has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Though nuts are super healthy, some of them are calorie-dense! Keep them in mind if you’re trying to lose weight.

Dark Chocolate

You might be scratching your head right now but dark chocolate, is in fact, healthy for you. But there’s a catch to it.

You have to look for dark chocolate that has at least 70% cocoa.

Unlike its milk chocolate cousin, dark chocolate has fewer calories, sugar, and has it’s fat coming from cocoa butter instead of milk (making it vegan-friendly).

Dark chocolate is also rich in flavonoids. These are natural substances that have been shown to be anti-oxidants that play a role in fighting free radicals that can cause cancer, heart problems, and other diseases.

Plain Greek Yoghurt

Greek yoghurt without additives and flavourings are a source of probiotics. These are live bacteria that are good for your digestive tract and overall health by boosting your immune system.

Probiotics aren’t the only benefit of greek yoghurt. Greek yoghurt is rich in calcium. Most of us are aware that calcium is necessary for good bone health, but it is also an important mineral for keeping a normal heartbeat.

If you’re trying to keep your weight in check, getting your daily dose of greek yoghurt can help. A small container of Greek Yogurt only has 100 calories on average.
