What to look for in a medical aesthetics professional with Nurse Hazel

When it comes to working a medical aesthetics professional, there are so many factors that need to be considered.  From educational credentials and work experience to style and bed or chair side manner, there are several ways to help narrow down your search.  But when it comes to finding the professional that works best for and with you, it’s all about meeting and getting to know them, and why they do what they do, to ensure you’ve found the best fit.  That’s exactly what I did with Nurse Hazel Salvador.

With over a decade of medical experience, Nurse Hazel’s career reflects a journey dedicated to patient care, and a commitment to enhancing lives through aesthetics. Recently joining the prestigious teams at Dr. Ford Plastic Surgery and Integra SkinLab in downtown Toronto, Nurse Hazel brings an extensive background that spans trauma nursing, surgical care, and medical aesthetics, making her a trusted expert in her field.  That’s exactly who I would want working on my face.

Nurse Hazel’s career began with a Bachelor of Nursing from Ryerson University, now known as Toronto Metropolitan University. After graduation, she immediately entered the Trauma Unit, where she worked for two years. The high-pressure environment required swift decision-making and emotional resilience, qualities that would later serve her well in aesthetic practice. Reflecting on this time, Hazel shared, “It was an intense, high-pressure environment, but it gave me such a strong foundation.” Her interest in surgery led her to transition to the Operating Room at Sunnybrook Hospital, where she spent time honing her skills in one of the country’s most respected healthcare institutions.

In 2020 Hazel’s career took a pivotal turn when she entered the then-emerging field of medical aesthetics. “I decided to shift into medical aesthetics—it was growing so quickly, and I knew it would be a fulfilling way to make a difference,” Nurse Hazel explained. Over the years, she has built a reputable career, working in clinics and med spas across Oshawa, Scarborough, Newmarket, and Downtown Toronto. Her journey has included ongoing professional development through courses and certifications, ensuring she remained on the cutting edge of aesthetic practices and safety protocols.

Her experiences in trauma, surgical, and aesthetic settings have given Nurse Hazel a unique perspective on patient care. “Working in trauma and the OR showed me how complex people’s health can be and why some might seek to improve or enhance their appearance,” Hazel reflected. This background has not only broadened her technical knowledge but has also deepened her empathy for patients’ motivations and concerns. “I’ve seen people in some of their most challenging moments, both physically and emotionally,” Hazel added. “This experience has made me more compassionate and thoughtful in understanding what might drive someone to pursue aesthetic treatments.”

Nurse Hazel’s years of experience have also led her to develop invaluable skills that contribute to her effectiveness as an aesthetic practitioner. Listening attentively to her clients has become one of her core strengths, allowing her to offer treatment plans that align with their unique needs and goals. “One of the biggest [skills] is becoming a better listener,” she says. “My goal is always to understand what clients really need to achieve their aesthetic goals, which allows me to provide results that feel natural and satisfying.” Each treatment is customized, a reflection of her belief that “everyone’s needs are unique,” and that treatment plans should be adaptable as a person’s priorities evolve with age.

For those considering aesthetic treatments, Nurse Hazel emphasizes the importance of realistic expectations and thorough consultation. “Setting realistic expectations is crucial,” she advises. “I always recommend starting with a consultation to ensure clients are fully aware of the potential risks and outcomes of any treatment.” She also stresses the importance of choosing an experienced practitioner who will provide not only the treatment itself but also post-treatment support. “Look for a professional who prioritizes safety and transparency,” she advises, underscoring the need for open communication and trust in the patient-provider relationship.

Through her dedication and genuine passion, Nurse Hazel’s work feels more like a vocation than a job. “I honestly feel like my work is less of a job and more of a calling,” she says. Her deep connection with clients, many of whom have been with her for years, is a testament to her skill and the trust she inspires. “It’s incredibly rewarding to help people enhance their unique beauty, and I love the connections I build,” she shares. For Nurse Hazel, her clients are more than patients—they’re family. “Some of my clients have been with me for years and have become like family. I get to help them feel good about themselves, and that’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.”

Now, as she embarks on a new chapter with Dr. Ford Plastic Surgery and Integra SkinLab, Nurse Hazel is poised to continue her mission of enhancing lives through aesthetic care. “Both clinics are highly regarded, and I’m thrilled to bring my experience and dedication to these teams,” she says. With her wealth of knowledge, commitment to patient-centered care, and unwavering passion for her craft, Nurse Hazel stands as a respected leader in Toronto’s medical aesthetics landscape, ready to inspire confidence and beauty in each of her clients.
