New Music Friday – Mid-October Edition

Yeah, I didn’t think of a theme this week. Sue me. But I did curate a four-fingered hand of great artists for you. FOR FREE. Speaking of which, buy music, if you can. Or maybe buy a band’s t-shirt. Or a tote bag. Everyone needs a flock of tote bags.

First up, an impressive coterie of artists has come together for an expectedly-amazing track. Public Enemy featuring George Clinton and Cypress Hill have released the track, GRID and here’s the accompanying video. SOOOOO worth a watch and a listen. Do it.

Next up, a stunning singer/songwriter from right here in Canada, Helena Deland. She has released her much-anticipated debut full-length album, Someone New. I missed seeing Helena last year in Montreal where she opened for Courtney Barnett. However, I was lucky to catch her in Toronto last fall when she opened up for Weyes Blood. Her performance was nothing less than a beauty. Have a watch of the video for Comfort, Edge. And find out more about Helena at the links below.

An earworm that has happily been stuck in my brainbone for the last week is the solo version of I Should Go by James Vincent McMorrow. I like this song so much that I’ve included the original as well. Let me know which one your prefer. More about this talented Irish singer/songwriter dans les links.

Lastly on this lovely Friday, is a tune to vibe you out to the weekend. We do like the musical stylings of Big Wild over here in the Dept. Portland, OR-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Jackson Stell puts out some pretty sweet tunes to drift off or dance to. His release today of the video for Who Do You Believe? asks for support for the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan law and policy institute which strives to uphold the values of democracy by reforming, revitalizing, and where necessary, defending the American people’s systems of justice, for all.
