In the world of medical aesthetics, technology is always evolving. Toronto’s The Face Lab is always on the cutting edge of the industry, and now they are bringing a new technology to Ontario: the ONDA PRO. ONDA PRO is one of the world’s most talked-about body rejuvenation machines, and The Face Lab has become the first clinic in the province with the machine that performs this multifaceted treatment.
What is ONDA PRO?

The technology
ONDA PRO uses patented Coolwaves® microwave technology to selectively target unwanted fat cells while preserving surrounding tissue. ONDA PRO delivers controlled energy deeper into the tissue. The microwave energy is absorbed by fat cells, disrupting their integrity so the body can naturally eliminate them over time while the controlled heating stimulates collagen remodeling, improving skin firmness and elasticity. The technology may also improve the fibrous septae and connective tissue responsible for the dimpled appearance of cellulite. ONDA PRO can be used to treat various parts of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, flanks, buttocks, arms and knees. It can even be used under the chin.

The ONDA PRO Experience
Nurse Jo and The Face Lab team invited me to try out the ONDA PRO treatment for myself. The area we chose to work on was my abdomen. I had recently lost a bit of weight and noticed some dimpling and sagging skin just above my belly button. In general, a treatment session can run between 20 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. In my case, the session was about 20 minutes for the lower abdomen area. Nadine, the nurse performing my treatment used a lubricating liquid to allow the head of the device, in my case the larger head which is made for a deeper treatment of a larger body part. The length of time I mentioned above refers to the actual treatment ie when the ONDA PRO is in use, and is timed by the machine. Nadine advised me that it was normal to feel some heat below the surface of the skin during the treatment, and to let her know when things got a little too spicy, so we could take a break. I wish I could say that I was able to sit through the full 20 minute session sans break, but alas, I definitely requested more than one break over the time frame. All in all, I was under Nadine’s care for 30 to 40 minutes including breaks, and she told me I did very well compared to some other patients (though I did get the feeling that she was just being nice). After the session was over Nadine performed a short lymphatic massage, instructed me on how to care for the treated area, and sent me on my way. I was able to walk home with zero discomfort and aside from some light soreness
The Recovery
The post treatment protocol is simple and easy to follow: drinking lots of water (up to 3 liters a day) as well as some gentle self massaging of the area to assist with lymphatic draining and to help flush your system, supporting the body’s natural process. There is virtually no downtime after an ONDA Pro treatment; in fact, light activity is recommended after treatment, like 20-30 minutes of walking, gentle stretching and other light movement. It’s important to avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot baths, and strenuous, sweat-inducing workouts for 48 hours after treatment. Direct sun exposure must also be avoided, and sunscreen must be worn if the area is exposed after treatment. There was no real discomfort post treatment, just some light soreness, not all that dissimilar from how I would feel after a particularly strenuous ab workout. The soreness passed after a couple of days.
The Results
Like any cosmetic procedure performed on the body, it’s not a quick fix, nor will the results last if you don’t care for your body afterwords. The ONDA PRO treatment is designed to complement a healthy lifestyle; meaning you shouldn’t go back to a sedentary lifestyle and a diet consisting of burgers and pizza, if you want the treatment to be its most effective. The goal is to deliver gradual, natural-looking improvements in firmness, body contours and overall skin quality. Optimum results take effect within a couple of months, but I’ve already seen a difference in my stomach area. Over the weeks following my treatment, I noticed that the loose, dimpled skin began to smooth out, and my stomach looked and felt a little tighter. I can’t wait to see the full impact of the treatment over the next month or two!
