Today we’re thrilled to be the very first to share the brand new music video “Red Rover” from pop music disruptors Featurette.
Toronto-based Alternative Electronic Trio, FEATURETTE release the emboldened and cathartic, “Red Rover”, available now on all platforms worldwide. The song was written and produced by Lexie Jay, Jon Fedorsen and Marc Koecher in the band’s subterranean studio, Illegal Audio in Toronto.
Fronted by singer Lexie Jay and backed by bandmates Marc Koecher (Keys/Synth/Guitar) and Jon Fedorsen (Drums/Synths), the Toronto-based trio have been pushing the forefront of alternative electronic pop, with genre-bending dark, bouncy, addictive sounds and thought-provoking lyrics crafted right here in the 416. Their music has been captivating audiences for years, and the trio have shared the stage with world renowned acts like Milky Chance, Mother Mother, and X Ambassadors. Their debut LP CRAVE released in 2016, launched the band into overdrive, while their 2020 follow-up DREAM RIOT continued to usher in accolades for the band with radio play, a high-profile soundtrack spot in Ginny & Georgia, and two 2022 Canadian Independent Music Video Award wins. And now they’re back with “Red Rover.”
Red Rover’s hook by Lexie Jay says it all. Being different wasn’t the goal in life or in art, but seemed to be the inescapable reality Lex continued to face in every stage of her life. Feeling like, or being labeled the black sheep of your family or your peers can be isolating, but embracing that energy and calling in your people was the healing elixir Lex found after too much time alone.
“Owning your narrative and flipping that energy on its head was a powerful step toward breaking that people-pleaser mentality” writes Lex. “The school-yard game ‘red rover’ is a call to that challenge – can you break through; can you snap the chain and make room for yourself?”
