YG Live at HISTORY

American rapper YG (short for Young Gangsta) brought the Red Cup Tour to Toronto’s HISTORY on February 18, 2023. This was his long-awaited return to the city, his last on February 19, 2019. He was accompanied by a dynamic west coast lineup comprised of Kalan.FrFr and OhGeesy.

With notable hip-hop tracks, DJ Vision set the atmosphere right to hype the crowd. A short time later, Kalan.FrFr made his way to the stage sporting a Vince Carter Toronto Raptors jersey and OVO gear alongside his hype man. Not only did he rap, but he also sang, showcasing his versatility. His set engaged with the crowd having them put up peace signs and lighting up the stage with their flashlights, transitioning from song to song. To the crowd’s surprise, he also brought out Canadian singer and rapper Roy Wood$ to perform Drama

As they flowed into the next set, OhGeesy kept the energy high. Diehard fans went wild and rapped along to every song. Sticking to the tour’s theme, he and his crew would fill up their red cups between tracks, getting lit with the crowd. He then brought out local rappers Burna Bandz, J Neat, and Bundog. OhGeesy performed his latest single, GEEKALEEK, capping off his performance.

YG made his way to the stage with a similar look to his 2018 STAY DANGEROUS album cover, rocking leather pants and a studded vest. His set was halted for a quick second as what seemed to be bottled water was thrown on the stage during the second song. Keeping it professional, he continued to finish it. He then capitalized on what transpired to transition to his next track, Twist My Fingaz, with true artistry sending a message through the music. The energy and west coast vibes were at an all-time high. Kalan.FrFr, OhGeesy, and entourage would join him on stage for a couple of songs as they pour up their red cups. He continued to perform hits from over the decade like Why You Always Hatin’?, HANDGUN, and Who Do You Love? to name a few. YG closed off with BIG BANK ending a memorable wild night for his Toronto fans.

The Red Cup Tour heads to New York and Boston, with its final stop in Hawaii.
