Travelling With Your Teenagers

When your children reach a certain age, you might get the sense that the family holiday is about to become a thing of the past. You might struggle with the idea that your house is suddenly going to feel big and empty in a few years – and so it’s vital that you take the opportunity to enjoy a family holiday or two while you still can.

Gen Z might want slightly different things from their holidays – and so it’s important that you cater to their tastes. But at the same time, it’s worth applying the pressure and making the case for travel – even if they might be a little bit sceptical.

Strengthen Family Bonds

When you travel together as a family, you’ll naturally feel closer to one another – provided that you’ve created the right vibe. The right trip might allow you to eliminate distractions like smartphones and other kinds of screen, and focus on reconnecting with one another in a healthy setting. You might even go through new experiences together, which can provide a catalyst for bonding and closeness more generally.

Create Shared Memories

When you look back later in life on the time you and your children spent together, you might pick out a handful of moments and experiences. Typically, great family holidays will feature prominently. Travel provides an excellent opportunity to forge new memories together. This is true whether you’re going for a relaxing beach holiday together, for a hiking trip, or for a week on the ski slopes. All great family activity holidays are able to offer this quality.

Explore New Destinations Together

Your teenagers might have a slightly different set of interests and perspectives than they did when they were children. Instead of looking forward to theme parks and water slides, they might be interested in historical buildings and parkland. Get an idea of their preferences by simply asking them about them. In some cases, your teenagers might help to bring you closer to new experiences that you wouldn’t otherwise have considered. That might be a new pastime, an unfamiliar culture, or a kind of cuisine. This way, you stand a better chance of devising a holiday schedule that everyone can be enthusiastic about. It might be helpful to take a quiz, so that you can establish what kind of holiday really appeals.

Enjoy Adult Companionship

Now that your children are on the cusp of adulthood, they might have a different kind of relationship with you. You might be able to trust them with a few more adult responsibilities – like being given the keys to your holiday home and license to roam around the vicinity. You might even try experiences together that wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago – like wine tastings, the theatre, and other grown-up events.

Create New Traditions

Your holiday might provide you with a chance to create new traditions that might be repeated for years to come. This can be a way to reconnect easily, even after you become too busy to see one another as often. Certain traditions might be repeated year after year, helping you to crave travel together, even later on in life.
