Lara Taubman, a compelling force in New York’s folk and alternative music scene, has released her latest album, The Gospel of Getting Free. Known for her raw and emotive vocal style, Taubman once again captivates listeners with this hauntingly beautiful collection of songs.

Lara Taubman is a performing singer songwriter currently living in New York City. Before she began writing songs in 2015, she was a visual art critic, curator and painter. She has been passionately creating since she can remember, but it was when she committed to singing and songwriting that her personal world changed radically. She was living in Montana and it blew up her marriage. She moved back in 2016 to the creative home of her heart, New York City, to pursue music as a career.

She released her first album Revelation in 2020 on Wolfe Island Records. She was so moved by the year long journey of her first album, that she often returns to Wolfe Island. Fortuitously in 2021 she met producer/drummer Steven Williams on a gig and soon after they started working together on her latest album, The Gospel of Getting Free.  The need for emotional freedom and true joy is, by Taubman’s own admission, where fans will find her in The Gospel of Getting Free. In her own words:

“What distinguishes this album from the last two are two things. First, I feel more mentally healthy than I ever have. Last summer I began working with somatic therapy for trauma and it changed my life quickly. I immediately wanted more hope in the music as expressed in the songs “The Reason I Was Born” and “Sing Your Song.” Even the songs that are about dark matters like addiction (“Sugar”) and heartbreak (“The Odyssey,”) carry a sense of humor and an inner hope instead of despair.”

Our introduction to the album is “The Siren.” Known for her raw and emotive vocal style, Taubman once again captivates listeners with this hauntingly beautiful track. The song’s arrangement is minimalistic yet powerful, allowing her vocals and poignant lyrics to take center stage.
