Math-core rock band Dance Gavin Dance made their return to Canadian soil at HISTORY on May 29th in Toronto. The 4-piece band are underway in their North American Tour with an exciting lineup of rock bands: Dwellings, Belmont, and The Home Team. Aaron Marshall of Intervals made an appearance during The Home Team’s set to perform their collaboration track, Love & Co. All three bands showcased their entertaining brand of rock bangers, which got the crowd warmed up for the arrival of Dance Gavin Dance.
The band members came out onstage with two inflatables of the mascots featured in their album art as they began their set with Speed Demon, one of the first singles to feature clean vocals by Andrew Wells who was previously the band’s guitarist. The energy was at a high with unclean vocalist Jon Mess coasting through his screams with ease, while the crowd started crowd-surfing to the barricade. Touring guitarist Sergio Medina showed off his animated playing in his guitar under vibrant lighting.
Throughout the night, the show was electrifying and full of energy. As founding guitarist Will Swan and drummer Matt Mingus effortlessly shredded through their guitar and drums, the whole band performed a set full of old bangers like Blue Dream and The Backwards Pumpkin Song while playing new songs from their upcoming eleventh album, Pantheon with Midnight At McGuffy’s and All The Way Down. The highlight of the night was towards the end of the show when Brian Butcher from The Home Team joined Dance Gavin Dance to perform their most notable hit, Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most. The crowd sang to every lyric and shouted with excitement to Jon Mess’s scream in the breakdown.
Dance Gavin Dance’s Return of the Robot tour is happening across North America throughout June. Expect an energetic and exhilarating show when the band makes a stop in your city.
