Yippee Ki Yay Adds a Sentimental Twist to Cult Classic Die Hard

Starvox Entertainment has put on Yippee Ki Yay at their Lighthouse Art Space in Toronto. This very unique experience of the movie Die Hard is still running until January 12th.

Richard Marsh, Fringe First-winner, London poetry slam champion, BBC Audio Drama Best Scripted Comedy Drama award-winner first put on the Yippee Ki Yay parody of Die Hard at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022. This parody is more than just a retelling of the film Die Hard. Marsh retells his favourite film with anecdotes of how the movie has impacted his life, love life and lead to his marriage and subsequent two children. While interjecting his personal life within the parody, he retells Die Hard through mostly rhyming poetry and with hilarious props as this is a one man show.

Ivor Pinder, audience member of the play felt that the multi-storyline aspect added to the narration of the parody – especially the similarities in the reluctantness of Marsh and McLean toward certain areas of their intimate relationships. “Marsh was able to interject jokes easily and organically, the choreography of the lighting was done really well and the entire parody was fun. If you haven’t seen Die Hard before it isn’t a massive problem. It adds more context but you would still enjoy yourself.” Pinder added that Marsh’s voice acting was spot on and that Marsh did a “killer” impression of Alan Rickman. Outside of the impressions, as this is a one man show, you watch Marsh fight characters that are personified as stuffed animals. Murdering teddy bears with wigs – anyone?

Tickets are available for this one of a kind experience that shares the story of Die Hard, love, and verifying that Die Hard is in fact a Christmas Movie.
