This week on the Reheat – The Celebrity Crushes We Love (And Loathe)

Hello, and welcome to The Reheat! Each week, I write a column summarizing the highlights of the podcast I co-host with Sadaf Ahsan. Our podcast, also titled The Reheat (what a coincidence!), re-examines the most salacious scandals of yester-year through a contemporary lens. Whether it’s a deep dive into Bennifer’s original love story from the 2000s or a meditation on the time princess Anne was almost kidnapped, we explain why each saga captured our imaginations back in the day. Sadaf and I also ask, would these stories be as scandalous if they happened in 2022? The answers to that question might surprise you!

Whenever we release a new episode, I share some of the most interesting (or in this week’s case, troubling) information right here, for Addicted Magazine’s lovely readers. Obviously, we hope these columns tantalize you enough to listen to our podcast. That’s where you’ll learn the compelling facts I don’t share here…

This week’s episode is a thirsty deep dive into the celebrity crushes we love – and those we’ve come to regret. You’ll hear about how Sarah pined for Matthew Perry and Aziz Ansari before their problematic sex and dating lives came to light. She’ll also dish on why she still loves Stanley Tucci, the Chanel Suit of Crushes. Sadaf explains her love of Keanu Reeves and Tom Hanks while lamenting how Kanye West went from dreamboat to wife abuser. This episode is quite the ride!

Matthew Perry Went From Parasocial Boyfriend To Dating App Creep

Chandler Bing was Sarah’s first crush. As a pre-teen watching Friends, he seemed like the sort of mildly witty, loyal guy you could meet at an IRL coffeeshop like Central Perk. Sadly, Sarah conflated the character of Chandler Bing with Matthew Perry, the actor who portrays. As it turns out, Matthew certainly is not him!  In 2021, it came out that Perry had matched with a 19 year-old TikTok user on the dating app Raya. What’s even more disgusting is how the fifty-something Perry asked if he was the same age as her dad. If you have to ask someone that, aren’t you implicitly admitting you’re too old for them? Chandler Bing would never behave in such an appalling manner!

Kanye West Became Horrifying Ex-Husband

Sadaf and I loved Kanye back in the day. We dare you to name a millennial who didn’t use his classic Stronger as a pumpup song at one-point! Unfortunately, Kanye has become undeniably problematic in recent years. First, he announces his support for Trump in 2016, which instantly made him unattractive. He also weirdly “sort of” ran for president himself in 2020, but never fully committed to that gambit. And since separating from ex-wife Kim Kardashian, he’s became an abusive ex who publicly threatens her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson. As feminists, we refuse to crush on a man who mistreats a former partner. Our crushes on Kanye have officially been abandoned…

Stanley Tucci Made Us Into Stansexuals

It’s important to give Addicted’s lovely readers a preview of a crush who didn’t lose his lustre. Happily, we still love Mr. Stanley Tucci! Thanks to his impressive Negroni-making abilities and his relatable hatred of Peppa Pig, Sadaf and I self-identify as Stansexuals. For the unintiated, Stansexuals are fans who appreciate Stanley Tucci as one of the sexiest beasts alive. Fun fact? He first hit on his wife, Felicity Blunt, at the 2010 wedding of her sister – and his co-star – Emily Blunt. Picking up a bridesmaid at a wedding? Dude’s got game!
