TESTED: The Butcher Shoppe

Like many, I’ve been at home for a while now cooking up a storm for obvious reasons. Even though things are opening back up, cooking daily for myself isn’t going to change anytime soon.

I have to admit I loved cooking before the pandemic and honestly enjoy it even more now. From creating something new from scratch to following old favourite recipes, I like many, have found my cooking groove in my late 30’s, and I genuinely enjoy it. I also enjoy finding places to get fresh poultry and meats.

So when I discovered The Butcher Shoppe, I just had to learn more.

As I perused through their site, I saw so many delicious selections. The Butcher Shoppe offers home delivery of a wide selection of quality meats and poultry for those who don’t know.

So, to test them out, we ordered the family box so we could start some cooking!

1. You order online

Select just what you need, from cut size and quantity to your desired delivery date. Make your selections, put them in your online cart, and pay. The Butcher Shoppe will take care of the rest.

2. They cut and prepare your order by hand

Your order is prepared no more than 24 hours in advance for peak freshness, just how you’re expecting your meats to be taken care of by a proper butcher.

3. You open your door to the good stuff!

They deliver your order on their fleet of refrigerated trucks. So it’s precisely how it should be when it arrives at your door.

Order what you like, when you want it, from a build-your-own option or premade boxes as we did. It’s that easy.

The Butcher Shoppe also offers next-day delivery, six days per week, by refrigerated truck. Rush service if needed. A Customer Sales & Service department can respond 24 hours a day to your order inquiry. They deliver throughout the GTA from Oshawa to Niagara, west to London and north to Bracebridge to bring you something special.

Hand-prepared meats:

Your online order will be treated with the same attention and care it would if you came into The Butcher Shoppe to order in person, and we found that out first hand. That striploin you just added to your cart? It will be hand-cut by a butcher who knows it like the back of their hand. Those smoked farmer’s sausages? They were prepared in-house, to order, by The Butcher Shop master sausage maker. Each online order made fresh to the highest standards of butchery and meat handling—no exceptions.

Strict adherence to food safety protocols:

Their dedicated food safety team scrutinises every aspect of their operations to ensure they meet local and provincial standards, from how meat is received and stored, to preparation and delivery.

When our box arrived at our headquarters in Toronto, we unpacked the box, put the meats we weren’t going to cook in the freezer and later that day, would start making some meals.

The Family Box includes eight Bratwurst, eight Prime Rib Burgers (6oz), and eight Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (7oz) along with 2lb Ground Beef and one 16oz Flat Iron Steak.

We fried, baked, and BBQ’d to our heart’s content, and we must admit, this is the perfect staple pack for a couple or a family.

The Family Box, priced at eighty-five dollars, made many a meal for us. From a delicious BBQ smoked flank steak with glazed carrots, sage chicken with caprese salad, to some seriously hearty and delicious pasta and meatballs with a side of broccoli, it was all quality meat and poultry.

On top of some excellent cuts of meat, we must admit that the burgers were top-notch—Jucy, flavourful, meaty goodness.

Now that’s not all The Butcher Shoppe offers. It’s just the beginning. With a wide selection of quality products that include beef, chicken, pork, lamb, along with local, organic, and grass-fed choices, it’s easy to see why we and so many love, The Butcher Shoppe.
