Award-Winning Drag Queens Fay and Fluffy to Host Sistema Toronto’s Spirit Gala

After sweeping up the Shaw Rocket Fund Kids’ Choice Award at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards, local drag queens Fay and Fluffy are ready to charm attendees at the Sistema Toronto Spirit Gala with their special blend of comedy, whimsy, and glitter. Sistema’s Gala is gearing up after a 3-year pandemic hiatus, once again promising an enchanting evening of live, local talent, a silent auction, delicious food, and the electric energy that only Fay and Fluffy can bring.

Noting the importance of arts education as a tool for change, Sistema CEO Shawn Earle adds, “We believe strongly in the power of music education as a tool for social action. The Sistema Toronto Spirit Gala celebrates the contributions our friends, community members, advocates, and donors make to ensure a successful program that’s barrier-free for all participants.”

For those of you that don’t know, Sistema Toronto provides musical and intellectual opportunities to children in underserved neighbourhoods with the goal of transformative social change. The program is first and foremost a social development program, supporting students’ growth through ten hours of weekly ensemble-based music education. Students learn strings (violin, viola, cello, or double bass), percussion, choir, and movement while developing important life skills like problem solving, empathy, and self-advocacy.

Sponsored by Beanfield and Long & McQuade, the 2023 Gala is set to take place on Thursday, May 11th at the trendy Blue Moon Brewery @ Stackt, where attendees can expect a casual vibe in which to enjoy the blues and jazz strains of Neil Braithwaite and the Afro-Cuban jazz of JUNO-Award winning duo OKAN. Attendees will also have the opportunity to peruse the Gala’s silent auction, which will include a vintage-style Epiphone acoustic guitar, generously donated by Long & McQuade. Set against the backdrop of Fay and Fluffy’s playful banter, the evening is sure to satisfy music lovers and encourage an outpouring of support for Sistema students across the city.
