Inside Le Germain Mercer in Toronto is a new Indian-British restaurant, with unique flavours and a sultry interior. Punch is the new restaurant in Le Germain replacing the former Victor Restaurant. Punch gets its name from the Hindi word pañch, meaning “five” and pronounced punch. Chef Mandar Kulkarni drew from family recipes, reinterpreting the flavours both Indian and British cuisine. The Mumbai Chat-Slaw layers crisp vegetables with tamarind yogurt and boondi for a playful nod to street food. The Madai Crudo is finished with crisp pear-kohlrabi relish, bay leaf powder and herb oil, the Butter Chicken Pot Pie reinvents the British…

Union Hotel, located on York Street in Downtown Toronto is meant to feel atmospheric. The hotel, which opened in February, is all about art, aesthetic and sustainability. The lobby is large, extended and feels like a cozy lounge more so than a bustling hotel lobby. The lobby features several different seating areas and work spaces, as well as private cubicles to take calls. Along the side of the lobby is the Humble Donkey restaurant. The name derives from a mural uncovered in the basement during renovations of a Spanish man riding a donkey. The team behind Union Hotel added the…
For the past few weeks, all eyes have been focused on Toronto as the Toronto International Film Festival took shape. Junk World is Takahide Hori’s latest film in his stop-world animation series, with previous work Junk Head. The film follows a civil war and several humanoid robots trying to save the world and themselves. One specific robot goes through…
I tend to be skeptical of celebrity skincare, makeup and perfume lines but we have seen an uprising of celebrity owned brands making genuinely top-tier items. For the past few months we’ve been testing Fenty items to see if Rihanna’s skincare line is truly worth the hype. These are our five favourite items that we are keeping in rotation. Starting with the base layer, the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer. This primer is hydrating, adds radiance and is a soft matte texture. While I had recently been enjoying jelly primer’s, the Fenty Primer still has great hold and works…
Thermacell is a mosquito repellent using a product that spreads to repel mosquitoes from up to 20 feet away. As someone born in the east coast, I can confirm the annoyance and persistence of mosquitoes and how many different products I have used over the years from candles and sprays. Recently, in Banff, my partner and I were eaten alive by mosquitoes, so coming back to Ontario to use Thermacell was just the relief I was hoping for in a box. While cottaging in Muskoka, we brought Thermacell which did as described. The E65 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller and Fast Charging…
