A New Era in Niagara with Stone Eagle Winery

This fall, Niagara wine country enters a bold new era with the arrival of Stone Eagle Winery, an ultra-premium, purpose-built estate where modern luxury and timeless craftsmanship converge. Set on 36 meticulously cultivated acres in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Stone Eagle is far more than a winery—it’s a destination designed to elevate the senses. From expressive, low-intervention vegan wines to sommelier-led tastings and refined food pairings, every detail is orchestrated to celebrate the harmony between wine, cuisine, and ambiance.

At the centre of this new chapter are sisters Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli, the visionary founders behind the award-winning Two Sisters Vineyards. With Stone Eagle, they are expanding their legacy, bringing forward a deeper expression of their family’s passion for artistry, hospitality, and elevated experiences. Guided by a philosophy that honours both luxury and sustainability, the estate’s vineyards are Certified Sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario—an important reflection of the sisters’ commitment to stewardship and innovation.

Angela and Melissa took the time share the inspiration behind Stone Eagle Winery, and their hopes for what this new estate will bring to wine lovers across Canada and beyond.

When and how did the idea of Stone Eagle come about?

Angela: Stone Eagle Winery was created as a natural extension of our family’s winemaking heritage in Niagara-on-the-Lake—a new chapter that builds upon the premium craftsmanship and philosophy first established at Two Sisters Vineyards.

Melissa: Rather than a renovation or expansion, Stone Eagle stands as a purpose-built estate designed from the ground up to unite contemporary architecture, world-class wines, and refined hospitality. Conceived as a more elevated and curated experience, Stone Eagle reflects a deep commitment to excellence and a new standard of luxury within Niagara wine country.

What is it like working with your family—especially your sister?

Angela: It’s rewarding, and never boring. We share the same vision but have very different strengths, and that balance is what makes it work. Working together has always been second nature to us. Our partnership is built on shared values and complementary strengths—we know each other intuitively.

Melissa: Family is at the heart of everything we do, both at Two Sisters and now with Stone Eagle. Angela and I know each other inside out, which means we can move quickly and trust completely. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Like our family, we both hold a deep appreciation for hospitality and take great pride in creating spaces that feel welcoming, intentional, and timeless.

What inspired you to bring the family business to the next level with Stone Eagle?

Melissa: Two Sisters set the foundation, and Stone Eagle builds on it. We wanted to redefine what luxury in Canadian winemaking and hospitality could look like. For us, that meant focusing on craftsmanship and creating a place where every detail tells a story.

Angela: We also wanted to hone in on events and culinary offerings, so that experiencing wine goes beyond the bottle. Our restaurant, The Nest at Stone Eagle, brings that vision to life. It’s an intimate space with a locally sourced, seasonal, globally inspired menu designed to complement our wines. Signature dishes—like Hamachi Crudo with Yuzu Kosho, Stone Eagle Risotto with Braised Lamb Shoulder, and BC Wild Miso Black Cod—reflect our belief that food and wine are inseparable.

Melissa: Beyond the restaurant, the entire estate was built for hosting. From private tastings and weddings to corporate retreats, every space on the property is designed to celebrate connection, craftsmanship, and the interplay between wine, food, and elevated hospitality.

What challenges have you faced as women in the wine industry?

Angela: The wine industry can feel rooted in tradition, particularly at the leadership level. Early on, we had to show that our perspective was equally valuable—and innovative—within that landscape. When visiting potential licensees, the rooms were predominantly male, and there were moments where we felt we weren’t taken seriously. But we persevered, letting the quality of our wines speak for itself. There’s also power in being underestimated. We’ve built something we’re proud of by staying true to our instincts and leading authentically.

What advice do you have for other women looking to excel in the wine world?

Melissa: Stay focused on your vision and your business. Believe in yourself and the value you bring. Being a woman is an advantage—our strengths in empathy, multitasking, and attention to detail help us connect deeply and lead effectively. Surround yourself with people who share your vision and can offer meaningful support. Mentorship has been invaluable for us; the leaders who guided us became sounding boards and examples of strength and grace that continue to inspire us.

What are you most proud of when it comes to Stone Eagle?

Melissa: I’m most proud that we’ve created something with true integrity that reflects our family’s values, legacy, and passions. Seeing guests connect with what we’ve built—whether through a tasting, a meal at The Nest, or a special event—is incredibly rewarding.

Angela: I’m proud of our team and the culture of excellence we’ve built together. Every person plays a role in bringing our vision to life, and that creativity and collaboration shows in everything we do.

The Future of Elevated Wine Experiences: A Holiday Invitation
