How To Pair Flooring With Other Home Decor: A No-Fuss Guide

Flooring is an essential part of any home. It provides a necessary surface for walking and living, but it also contributes to the overall style and aesthetic of the space. Flooring comes in many different materials, colours, and styles, so it can be tricky to choose the right one to match your other home decor. But with a little bit of know-how, you can easily pick the perfect flooring to go with any room in your house. So whether you’re just starting out on your home renovation journey or you’re looking for some final touches to complete the look, this guide has everything you need! Let’s walk you through all the different factors you need to consider when pairing flooring with other home decorations.

Matching Flooring With Cushions, Curtains, and Rugs

One of the best ways to tie your flooring in with the rest of your home is to match it with other textiles in the space. Cushions, curtains, and rugs are all great options for bringing unity to a room. For example, if you have hardwood floors, you might choose to pair them with a wool rug in a similar colour. Or, if you have tile floors, you could bring in some patterned cushions or curtains to add visual interest. However, blue and white styling will go with almost any flooring, hardwood, or tile. Just make sure that whatever textile products you choose complement each other and don’t clash too much. You want your home to look cohesive, not like a mismatched mess!

Choosing The Right Paint Colors

Another way to make sure your flooring coordinates with the rest of your home is to carefully select paint colours that will go well with it. If you have light-coloured floors, you might want to opt for a darker paint colour to create contrast. Or, if you have dark floors, you could use lighter paint colour to brighten up the space. You can also use paint colours to create an illusion of different flooring materials. For instance, painting your floorboards with a dark stain will give them the look of being made from rich mahogany. Similarly, painting your tiles in a light colour will look more like stone or marble. Of course, you don’t have to stick to just one colour scheme throughout your entire home. You can use different colours in different rooms to create a more dynamic and interesting look. Just make sure the colours you choose complement each other and don’t clash.

Picking The Perfect Furniture

When it comes to choosing furniture for your home, you’ll want to pick pieces that complement your flooring without being too matchy-matchy. For example, if you have hardwood floors, you might want to avoid using furniture with metal legs, as this can scratch the floor. Instead, opt for furniture with wood or plastic legs. If you have tile floors, you can pretty much use any type of furniture, but again, try to avoid anything that might scratch or damage the surface. And if you have carpet, be careful not to use furniture that’s too heavy, as this can crush the fibres and make the carpet look worn. Instead, choose lighter pieces or those with casters.

Artwork, Photographs, and Wall Decor

In addition to furniture, you can also use artwork, photographs, and other wall decorations to add style and personality to your home. If you have hardwood floors, you might want to avoid hanging anything too heavy on the walls, as this can damage the floors. Instead, opt for lighter pieces or those that can be hung using Command strips. If you have tile floors, you can pretty much hang anything you want, but again, try to avoid anything too heavy or sharp that could damage the surface. And if you have carpet, be careful not to use push pins or tacks as this can leave permanent holes in the carpet. Instead, use command strips or velcro dots. For example, you could hang a tapestry using command strips or put up a picture frame using velcro dots.

No matter what type of flooring you have in your home, there are many ways to make it work with the rest of your décor. So, when it comes to pairing flooring with other home decorations, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, match your flooring with other textiles in the space, such as cushions, curtains, and rugs. Second, carefully select paint colours that will complement your floors. And third, choose furniture and wall decor that won’t damage your floors. By following these tips, you can create a cohesive and stylish look in your home that will impress your guests!
