Simple Ways to Boost Energy and Recover Faster

If you are like most people, the struggle of being constantly tired could not be more real. As some anonymous sage aptly quipped:

“I’m not an early bird or a night owl. I’m some sort of permanently exhausted pigeon.”

While the challenge of feeling your best may feel insurmountable, it’s not as difficult as you might think. With the proper strategy and attention to detail, it is quite possible to feel markedly better. Keep reading as we explore some simple ways to boost energy and facilitate recovery.

Prioritize Hydration and Nutrition

Adequate hydration is the first step in recovery.

Water transports nutrients throughout the body. This is vital for the repair of worn down bodily tissue. It is also essential in the digestive process. It helps ensure the efficient absorption of nutrients for optimal muscle glycogen replenishment. This serves as the energy source for muscles to use throughout physical activity.

When the body becomes dehydrated, numerous adverse effects occur. Metabolic processes slow down, leading to decreased energy. The body cannot adequately rid waste. Protein synthesis in the muscles becomes inefficient, slowing down the rate of tissue repair.

Despite its importance, staying hydrated can be a challenge. Therefore, it is vital to have a plan in place. Start your day with an 8-ounce glass of water. Leverage timers and hydration apps to help remind you when it is time to sip. It is better to sip in 8-ounce increments throughout the day rather than chugging large quantities in a single sitting.

It is also important to remember the role of nutrition for energy and recovery. Fruits and vegetables are not only nutrient-dense, but they also contain high levels of water to aid in hydration. Avoid highly processed foods or those packed with sugar and/or salt. Not only are these types of “empty calorie” foods hard on your metabolism, but they can also cause water to be pulled from key bodily tissues and into the stomach to aid in diffusion, resulting in cramping, bloating, and/or sluggishness.

Ensure Adequate Rest

There is much evidence that rest is the most important component of a healthy body. Some of the world’s foremost athletes and bodybuilders will spend hours sleeping for every hour of working out/eating.

With that said, getting rest is exceedingly difficult for most people. Not only does life get in the way of precious sleep time, but many people have difficulty turning off their minds and closing their eyes once they finally do lie down.

Therefore, it is vital to “sleep train” yourself. Yes, a similar process as getting a fussy infant to sleep through the night can be beneficial in improving the quality of your sleep. Some tips include:

  • Establish a consistent sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day–even on weekends.
  • Create a relaxing bedtime routine. Take a warm bath, read a book, or listen to relaxing music. Avoid stimulating activities–especially video games, action movies, or social media drama. Set your phone to “do not disturb” to help you wind down.
  • Optimize your sleep environment. Dress in cozy pajamas, ensure comfortable bedding, and shoot for complete darkness. If you live in a noisy neighborhood, a white noise machine may be beneficial.

One more tip: while we extolled the benefits of hydration, it is a decent idea to restrict fluid consumption an hour before bedtime, especially if you have a history of an overactive bladder. Frequent nighttime trips to the restroom can be the bane of peaceful sleep.

Engage in Moderate Exercise

There is no denying the importance of exercise as a part of a healthy lifestyle. It is crucial for bone density, muscle growth, stress relief, cardiovascular function, and a host of other benefits.

With that said, when it comes to optimal energy and recovery, exercise should be moderate. This typically refers to “zone 2” activity, where heart rate is about 75% of maximum capacity. This is the ideal level of strenuousness to facilitate circulation and maximize the detoxification benefits of exercise.

While more intense exercise is the way to go for performance-related goals, it will be more physically draining and can actually cause you to feel more tired without an accompanying increase in rest and nutrition.

Explore Modern Wellness Treatments

With the fast-paced nature of modern life, it can sometimes be difficult–if not impossible–to do all of the basics of self care. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to prepare healthy meals and get in a workout. It may be necessary to stay up past bedtime for work or to take care of household tasks. Staying hydrated throughout the day can become an afterthought.

When the daily grind inevitably leads to that rundown feeling, it is worthwhile to consider the benefits of modern wellness treatments, such as mobile IV therapy.

By introducing key fluids and minerals directly to the bloodstream, mobile IV therapy bypasses the lengthy digestion process. While results differ on a case-by-case basis, many people can feel the replenishing effects in a matter of minutes. According to Vanessa Cabrera of Las Vegas Mobile IV Therapy: “Many of our clients feel noticeably more energized and refreshed within an hour of treatment—sometimes, hydration and vitamins are exactly what the body’s been asking for.”

The best part of mobile IV therapy is that it is, well, mobile. There is no need to travel to a clinical facility. A licensed nurse provider will conduct a brief consultation to go over your medical history and wellness goals. They will then help you decide on the best nutrient blend to include in your IV drip. The treatment is then brought directly to your home, office, hotel, or any other preferred venue for the ultimate in on-the-go wellness.
