How to Make Sure Your Loft Conversion Increases the Value of Your Home

If you are looking to make home improvements ahead of selling your property, or perhaps you just want to make the most of the space you have available in your home, then converting your loft into a living space you can use is a great way to increase the value of your property and create vital space lots of people need, especially if you have a growing family or are working remotely from home. This article will highlight some of the key benefits of converting your loft and offer practical advice on things you need to be aware of before undertaking the project.

How to find out if your loft is suitable for a conversion

There are a number of factors you need to consider to determine if your loft is suitable to be converted into an additional living space in your home. As you won’t be extending or altering the existing boundaries of the property, it’s unlikely that you would need to apply for planning permission to undertake the conversion, but it’s advisable that you thoroughly research any
regulations before starting the work.

One of the most important things you need to think about is the head height in your loft space, and whether or not it would be feasible to be able to use this space for everyday living. You also need to take stock of the space you have available and any potential obstructions that could hamper your plans to renovate the loft, such as solar panel generators, chimney stacks or water tanks. While these obstructions don’t necessarily mean your conversion can’t go ahead, they could dramatically decrease the amount of room you have to work with to create a comfortable space.

You also want to make sure that your roof is properly insulated, so that it’s feasible that this space could be used for everyday living. If not, you could purchase insulation from RS Americas to make sure the loft is warm and to avoid heat escaping unnecessarily. Finally, it’s imperative that you are confident in the stability of the flooring in the loft and whether or not it can handle the weight of things like heavy furniture and regular use.

How can a loft conversion benefit your home?

There are many reasons why choosing to convert your loft can be beneficial. First and foremost, converting your loft will allow you to create additional living space, such as an extra guest bedroom or a home office, and this in turn will increase the value of your property.

There are no limits to how you can use this space, so it gives you the freedom to create a room that perfectly suits the needs of your family. Converting a loft is also relatively cheap in comparison to how much profit it could give you in return, and many loft conversions can be undertaken as a DIY project when using the right tools and materials.

Converting your loft can also make your home more energy-efficient and the use of proper insulation will keep your home warmer for longer in the winter months.
