How to Escape for Some September Sun This Year

British summer is gradually drawing to a close. The worst of it is that you never quite know when it’s over, thanks to the notorious unpredictability of the weather in the UK.

If you’re looking to extend the summer for just a few weeks, then you might plan a trip overseas during September. This needn’t just be a chance to lounge on a beach; it might also be a chance to explore a beautiful part of the natural world, or to experience an unfamiliar culture.

Best of all, September is often a cheaper time of year to go on holiday, since demand for flights and accommodation is lower than it is in July and August.

Choose sunshine with more than just sunbeds

It might be tempting to focus solely on the resort you’ll be staying in, especially if you prefer an all-inclusive experience. But in some cases, it’s worth thinking about your broader surroundings. In the Canary Islands, the Seychelles, or Madeira, you’ll find that the temperatures are pleasantly balmy long into the evenings.

Why Madeira works brilliantly in September

This little Portuguese island is well worth considering, thanks to a combination of excellent sunshine and natural beauty. You can trek to the top of the island and watch the sun rise, if you’re willing to get up early. You might even explore the island on foot, with the help of the levada trails. There are trails available to suit hikers of all abilities, and many of them offer access to parts of the island that can’t be accessed through other means.

The villages are peaceful later in the year, and you can get a sense of isolation and serenity that’s a perfect antidote to other kinds of sun-soaked holidays. A Madeira walking holiday is therefore well worth considering.

Make it hassle-free and well-timed

We’ve already mentioned how a September trip can be more affordable. For best results, you’ll want to book during term time. It’s also worth thinking about the length of your airport experience, and the price you’ll be paying for activities and excursions.

Getting the best from September often means acting early. Take a look at your options ahead of time, and, if you have any specific ambitions, make sure that you book sooner rather than later. That way, you’ll stand the best possible chance of avoiding disappointment.

A September break is often a powerful means of resetting and recuperating ahead of autumn. With Halloween just around the corner and Christmas following just behind, it’s worth taking advantage of the time you’re granted. After all, you might need all the energy you can get when winter rolls around!
