You must see Odysseo by Cavalia

There is a show that brings together the artistry of athleticism, music, and equestrianism. That’s right, the amazing team from Cavalia is back with their beautiful production of Odysseo.

The creators behind Cavalia have impeccably bonded the equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before-seen levels. Horses have made their mark on human history and progress more than any other animal ever has. Horses have taken us to the ends of the earth, helped us to build bridges between cultures and expand civilization. It’s the harmony of this ancient relationship that inspired the creators of Cavalia’s second show, Odysseo. The cast of this gorgeous production, 70 horses and 45 artists, lead the viewer on a beautiful journey where, together, they discover, and show their captivated audience, some of the planet’s most unforgettable landscapes. I had the privilege of seeing this show during their 2012 run. Even then i was mesmerized by the beauty of the show, and this time was no different.

The team behind Cavalia pulled out all the stops for their opening night. From the beautiful lighting, the stunning sets and the amazing cast (both equine and human) this show was hypnotic from start to finish. Live music accompanies every scene and every movement, the singer and players spotlighted as those who they play for perform before the audience’s eyes. From dangling from silks high in the air or turning upside down while their mounts run at full speed around the stage, the dancers, acrobats and aerialists pull of death defying feats with effortless grace. But of course it was the horses who were the true stars of the show.

I’ve always loved horses and the graceful power behind every one of their movements. What I loved about Odysseo is that while the horses are incredibly well trained, they are still allowed and encouraged to showcase their natural beauty and talent. From beautiful executed dainty dances to the wildest of gallops circling the stage, the magnificence of this animal is the true focal point of the show, and it’s perfection. And when horse and man come together on the Odysseo stage, that timeless relationship is perfectly showcased. It’s a partnership with a level of trust, respect and love that exists in no other form in nature, and it’s a wondrous thing to watch.

Odysseo’s return to Toronto is just as incredible as I hoped for and could have ever imagined, and I was so thrilled to be able to attend the first night of what is sure to be a great run.

Cavalia’s Odysseo runs in Toronto until May 10th before taking to Montreal for the rest of the summer.  For tickets and more information head to their website here. It’s a show you won’t want to miss. For a hint of what you’d be in for,  watch the video below.
