What to expect: Paul van Dyk at The Guvernment

In the era of up-and-coming DJ’s, new sounds, and quickly forgotten names, nothing is more rich and refreshing than a true legend. The first DJ to ever win a Grammy, Paul van Dyk has championed electronic music in ways that no one else ever has or will. On Friday, May 23, the German DJ/producer returns for what will be the last in a long history of performances at the storied Guvernment Complex in Toronto.

Breaking out in 1993 with his hit single, “For An Angel”, Paul van Dyk has since headlined A State of Trance festivals, closed out festivals all over the world, and even started his own We Are One Festival. His work has received hundreds of awards, and he was named the world’s best DJ two years in a row by DJ Mag. Last year, they officially crowned him as the greatest DJ of all time.

DJing for for over 20 years, he still remains relevant not only with his classics, but with his new album of remixes (R)Evolution, released in 2013.

To prepare you for his show Friday night, here are some we hope to hear:

1. “I Don’t Deserve You” – Paul van Dyke feat. Plumb

Grab the person you love, or your best friend, and memorize the words to this song so you can sing it at the top of your lungs like you really, really mean it.

2. “Ocean”- Paul van Dyk

The perfect mix of swaying softly and dancing till you can’t breath.

 3. “Crush” – Paul van Dyk

A classic that will take you back to 2009.
