WATCH AND LEARN: GANE Watches Revisited

GANE WATCHES TO RELEASE NEW MODEL VIA KICKSTARTER

Back in April 2022, I reviewed the Gane Type C2 Automatic. I liked this watch, from the tonneau case shape to the thick leather strap to the overall vintage styling. My sole complaint about this watch was the logo and dial graphics. You can read the entire piece over here.

Full disclosure: after my review came out, Gane Watches founder and designer Raymond Pee contacted me to discuss revising the Gane logo and dial graphics for a new model. Ray and I collaborated on these new designs, which can be seen in the new Gane Type D series. Having now worn the Gane Type C2 for over six months, my interest and support is derived from what a great product it is. This being said, I am proud of my contributions to this new, beautiful model and I have no financial interest in any sales for the Type D.

A sample wasn’t available for this review, so this article will reveal the specs and photos of the Gane Type D.

Taking inspiration from pre-World War II European wall clocks, The Gane Type D offers a striking minimal design from the case to the dial. Before going right to the dial, let’s look from the crystal down. The sapphire crystal is domed above the hands and dial. The hour and minute hands are uniquely styled in a hollow skeleton fashion, while the second features a hollow ball near the tip. The marine grade 316L stainless steel dial has recessed hour markers cut out of the textured linen dial revealing a red lower dial. Below the dial, the Type D is powered by a Citizen Miyota 90S5 movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This 24-jewel movement boasts a 42-hour power reserve. The back of the watch offers a view of the movement showing an engraved rotor to wind the mainspring. Lastly, with the Type D comes a vintage-styled European leather strap. The whole package arrives in a walnut presentation case.

When the Gane Type D is released for retail sales, the price will be $535 USD but Kickstarter supporters can pre-purchase this watch on the Nov. 1 launch at a 40% savings. Early bird pricing will be $319 USD while supplies last. Click here to learn more.
