Soak in the beauty and tranquility of the Kinabatangan River on the Malaysian side of Borneo before cruising along it in search of wildlife. This is a well known destination for those hoping to spot birds, elephants, monkeys, and crocodiles in their natural habitat.
Be wared, you could go out many times and see naught but birds. Or, you could be incrediby lucky like me and check off every animal on your wishlist on your first go. Pygmy elephants and proboscic monkeys (who look like pear-shaped Muppets, so cool) were the highlight.
I stayed at Sukau Greenview and rather than get a package, I calculated it could be cheaper to go cruise by cruise (I was determined to see the probiscis monkey and would have done a number of trips to try…luckily I only needed one). This was one of a handful of accommodations in the area. I liked the room and the food and the staff were very smiley and friendly, so it’s a place I’d recommend so the nature animal lover.
