Trapiche asks: PURE or EXTRAVAGANZA?

Recently I was invited out to a wine tasting by Trapiche and the question they asked that I keep in mind for the night was: “Will I be pure or extravaganza?”

The night started out at the Ritz Carlton in Toronto.  This first part featured a lovely red wine called “Pure”, of course from Trapiche. “Pure Malbec displays intense aromas of red fruits such as plums and cherries with a subtle touch of spice. Smooth and juicy tannins marked out by a mineral character leading to a long lasting finish.”  The appetizers that went along with the Pure setting and wine were clean kobe beef and dark chocolate.  I must admit, I really enjoyed not only the setting, but the Pure Malbec itself.

Next we were taken to a very funky underground venue known as the cave and greeted by servers in mardi gras masks and were handed a glass of Extravaganza.

“Trapiche Extravaganza Red blend is an exuberant combination of Malbec, Bonarda and Syrah displaying fresh aromas of red and black fruits, violets and a hint of spice. Fruity and juicy with refreshing finish. A wine meant to be savored!” This wine, along with being served in a crazy, fun and over the top venue, was paired with some pretty out there foods including duck tongue tacos, and donuts decorated and seasoned with…insects.  While the menu may not have been for the faint of heart, I did find that I enjoyed this wine very much as well.

As the night came to an end I was asked again to make a choice, was I Pure or Extravaganza? And while I really enjoyed both the wines and would recommend them, I had to go with the Pure. The the smooth flavour was a perfect match for my palate and I loved every sip.
