Toronto gets a Taste of Pop Montreal this summer

One of my favorite festival experiences last year happened at POP Montreal. This multi-day, city spanning music extravaganza featured diverse programming, cool venues and a great Montreal experience. Now POP is taking its show on the road, literally, with some great summer dates that will bring a bit of Montreal right into our own Torontonian backyard

After a double showcase at Toronto’s Canadian Music Week, POP is unveiling more fun news for the upcoming months: the re-opening of the Marché des Possibles, not one, but two POP Off tours, a showcase at NXNE and the return of the much anticipated Spring POP.

On June 19th the masterminds behind POP will host the second season of the Marché des Possibleswith the support of the arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal. The party will take off at 5pm with music by Country,Dead Man Get Up, piano virtuoso Henri-Pierre Noël, and another surprise guest! The weekend will feature 40 new vendors, the first installment of the BBQ Gourmand and more! The Marché des Possibles will run every weekend until August 9th. The full summer’s programming will be announced on June 19th.

The POP team will then take the awesome on the road with its 2015 POP Off tours. BIG BRAVE and Maica Mia will headline POP Off Tour 1 for an eight date tour which starting in Wakefield, Quebedc and end at the funtastic Sled Island festival all the way over in Calgary, Alberta. These two post-rock bands are a must see, considering BIG BRAVE’s last show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom with Silver Mt Zion turned into an highly hyped, sold-out event.

Later in July, Look Vibrant and Nancy Pants will headline the second POP Off Tour, which will swing by the Hillside Festival before heading to the Maritimes. Nancy Pants recent song Happy was featured in both Esquire and the Globe in Mail, with the Globe calling it “One of the Three Songs You Need to Hear”. And you will!

And most awesomely, the POP crew will invade Toronto on June 18th for North by North Eeast (NXNE). POP talent will again take the stage at the Silver Dollar as they did for CMW, and present the artsy-fartsy pop of Wider Smile, rock trioBasementsthe aforementioned Nancy Pants, psych-rock band Comet Control, the breezy music of Elsa and the super cool lo-fi melodies of Noni Wo. The showcase will also include a performance by No Joy, and She-Devils, newcomers on the Montreal scene have already shared a stage with the likes of Braids and Majical Cloudz.

Bring on the french invaders, I can’t wait! Check the dates and events below and get yourself a dose of POP!
