Time to celebrate Breastober: Raising awareness for Breast Cancer

Did you know it was Breastober? Neither did I. Did you even know that was a thing? Neither did I. But it is, and now we all know about it. And it’s time to support it.

Aside from being a mildly hard to pronounce portmanteau, Breastober is a new initiative by The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation with a goal to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Breast cancer is a disease that affects everyone. While women are the majority that suffer from it, men can be victims as well. But most of all, the victims are, truly, everyone and anyone.  Breast cancer goes beyond its victims, impacting our lives and those around us. One in 9 women in Canada will learn they have breast cancer in their lifetime. One in 9 will be treated at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Breast Cancer Research Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre includes innovative and ground breaking research, the Gattuso Rapid Diagnostic Program, the Breast Reconstruction Program and the Survivorship Program.

Breastober aims to support the hard work of PMHF, but it needs the support of Canadians in turn. Luckily, there are a multitude of ways that we can support Breastober:

Breastober “In Honour” Tribute Card – Send a card to someone who is special to you.  Your donation will support the Breast Cancer Research and Breast Restoration Programs.

Ribbon of Hope – A heartfelt fundraising program where you can purchase a pink ribbon or wonderful jewelry all handmade with love.

Honour Someone Special –  We have created a unique BREASTOBER cut out which is a fun and easy way to raise funds; show your colleagues and customers you are proud to support BREASTOBER

Wear a Pink Wig! Take a photo of yourself wearing a pink wig and share on your social networks with #breastober along with call to www.breastober.ca

Go to a party! On October 26 the team at Breastober will host An Awesome Evening in Support of “The Girls” at Early Mercy on King Street West in Toronto.  The Goal of the event is to raise $100,000 to purchase a complete system to finalize patient’s breast reconstruction restoration. Together, we can make that happen!  Buy your ticket here.

More and more, through early detection and intervention, women and men with breast cancer are living longer and healthier lives after diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Your support, in any way you feel comfortable getting involved is meaningful and making a difference.
