Time Fest: How I’ll be spending my Saturday

This Saturday, August 15, Embrace will host their annual Time Festival at Fort York Garrison Commons.

Fort York has become a staple event venue for summer festivals, hosting some incredible bands over the past few years. Though I have been one to bemoan the weekend-long outdoor festivals complete with hippie airplane dancing, Urban Outfitters-clad Coachella wannabes and the overly drunk frat boy behaviour, I have high hopes for this event. It will help my morale that this is a one-day event with an awesomely diverse lineup.

South African rap duo Die Antwoord will headline and surely push boundaries and perplex the audience. I saw them play Riot Fest last year and they certainly did both of those things! I look forward to Mac Demarco’s set, which promises to be odd in an entirely different fashion, as well as Freddie Gibbs and Ryan Hemsworth. Most of all, I anticipate Ariel Pink’s performance. A fan since his Haunted Graffiti days and even more since the release of Pom Pom, it’s shocking and appalling that I have yet to see him live. Ariel Pink’s music is wonderfully weird and clever; I expect the live version to be just as eccentric.

Check out Time Fest’s awesome lineup if you’re free on Saturday – tickets are still available!
