On a warm Sunday night, Bloc Party played their first of two shows in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. They are touring onHymns, their first album in 4 years with half a new band of drummer Louise Bartle and multi-instrumentalist Justin Harris. Founding members, singer/guitarist Kele Okereke and lead guitarist Russell Lissack entered the stage to a loud cheer and quickly started the show.
They opened with the second track from their latest album, the spiritual Only He Can Heal Me. The song built from a minimalist beat into full-blown crowd bouncer. The sell-out crowd was hyped from the opening and ready to dance. The show featured mostly songs from the latest and breakout debut album, Weekend in the City. They closed the show with 5 songs over 2 encores.
