The Whisky Gift Guide

My journey into whisky started out when I was 20. It all began with my first sip of Canadian Club Whisky.

So it comes as no surprise almost 15 years later that not only have I now tried over 100 different types of whisky, it’s safe to say that I would consider myself a connoisseur discovering my way to someday becoming an expert.

Now the more you know about anything in life the more prepared you are, but from what I have learned not only in the world of whisky but also just generally in life, the price tag never really matters, well except to your wallet.

What I’m getting at is this; there are so many great whisky choices out there some of which start at under 30$, so you don’t need to be a wealthy man, or woman to start your own adventure of gift a great whisky to someone that will.

So this season whether you are wanting to keep things on the economical side or spend a little bit more, I have some amazing whiskies that are sure to keep your friends, family, or that special someone happy this holiday season no matter your budget.

Let’s dive in!

Canadian Club Chairman’s Select 100% Rye

Price: Under $30 (click for more..)

Released over the last couple of years to rave reviews, the 100% Rye has become my go-to when it comes to whisky.

Why it’s so awesome:

Smooth, approachable and very welcoming on the pallet, and with a price of just 27.99 the Canadian Club 100% Rye this is the best deal you’ll find.

Flavour profile:

Rye Spiciness, caramel and oaky notes…aka it’s simple yet complex and delicious.

How to drink it:

Neat, on the rocks, also perfect for cocktails. Side note; it makes the perfect old fashioned, Perfect!

Suntory Whiskey Toki

Price: Under $70 (click for more..)

Why it’s so awesome:

Toki is pretty much the starter whisky of the Japanese offerings. Easy to drink, light to the site, and oh so silky smooth going down.

Flavour profile:

Light, and has a pure smoothness with a subtly sweet and spicy finish

How to drink it:

This one great to sip, or once again makes the perfect pairing for cocktails.

Highland Park 12 Year Old

Price: Under $100 (click for more…)

Why it’s so awesome:

Voted the “Best Spirit in the world” in 2013, this single malt scotch is the must have for any new or established whisky drinker.

Flavour profile:

Honey sweetness balanced alongside peaty smokiness. The mix is as close to perfect as your going to get, especially for just 79.95 which is literally a steal.

How to drink it:

If you want to bring out a bit of flavour, you can add a drop of water but if you’re like me, you only drink this one neat or with cold rocks.

Macallan Edition No. 2

Price: Under $200 (click for more…)

Why it’s so awesome:

This is a very special limited edition that is a collaboration between Macallan and the Roca Brothers, co-founders of El Celler de Can Roca, which was twice voted best restaurant in the world.

Flavour profile:

This one starts a bit spicy and reveals notes of orange, toffee, dried fruit and vanilla. It’s quite honestly a superb whisky.

How to drink it:

NEAT, you add anything and I’m coming to tell you off! I’m of course joking but I would never add anything.

There you have it. Four whiskies that brought me so much joy this year, will hopefully bring you, or someone you love some joy, and enjoyment this holiday season. Isn’t that what it’s all about.

Raising a glass to you and yours.
