The future of clean is now with the iRobot Braava jet m6

I’m old enough to remember The Jetsons (click here if you’re not). Even as a little kid, I was fascinated with the idea of Rosey, the robot housekeeper, a smart device that did all the things the family didn’t want to do around the house, with a side of entertainment.  Now, as an adult who is responsible for cleaning my own home, I dream of my own Rosey, the perfect balance of steely sassiness and ubiquitous usefulness.

There are few “adult” tasks that I hate more than mopping.  While I have yet to find a Rosey type robot to help me with my taxes, dealing with the government, and hand washing dishes that can’t go in the dishwasher, I have now been able to delegate my floor sweeping and washing to the iRobot Braava jet m6.  I’m not exaggerating when I say my life has been markedly improved as a result.

While iRobot has been making cleaning robots for a while now, this next generation of devices are smarter than ever.  They can connect to your phone and other smart home devices through WiFi, all coordinated through their accompanying app.   Different types of technology, like the iAdapt 3.0 Navigation, vSLAM technology, Virtual Wall Barrier and Imprint Smart Mapping help the robots learn a home’s floor plan, avoid obstacles like furniture, walls or stairs, making the Roomba or Braava more efficient with each use.  You can even schedule when the devices clean, through the app or by asking Alexa or whatever home device you may be using, integrating your robot vacuum or mop and making your already smart home even smarter.

The Braava jet m6 can be used as either a dry sweeper and or a mop, and is meant to be run after a vacuum, be it with one of iRobots Roomba robot vacuums or your own.  Depending on which Roomba you may have, the two devices can work as a team using the Imprint Link Technology, (available on the Roomba s series, i series, and 900 series vacuums).  Once the Roomba wraps up its job, the Braava kicks in, to sweep or mop, depending on which type of cleaning pad you’ve attach.  Bonus, the pad type is automatically detected by the device. In Dry Sweeping mode, the pads use electrostatic force to capture dirt, dust, and hair (pet or human). In Wet Mopping mode, the Precision Jet Spray loosens dirt and stains that are scrubbed and wiped away by the pad’s moisture wicking fibers. Used cleaning pads can be discarded with the touch of a button once used.

I, like many of you, have been spending far more time at home lately.  I also have 3 pets at home, 2 cats and a dog.  Between our 14 sets of feet, my floors get more traffic than the average single person dwelling in the city, and it shows.  Try as I might, I could not keep up with the onslaught of mess with vacuuming alone, and no one wants to live with gritty floors. And that’s the Braava’s time to shine.

I run my Braava a couple of times a week.  I will tidy up, pull out my  wireless vacuum to take care of any bigger messes, then set the Braava up with a clean dry pad and send it through. I was happy to see that the Braava comes with a couple of tester pads for both sweeping and drying.  There are also reusable pads available, which was a welcome surprise for me as I’m always looking for ways to reduce consumption and waste.  I’ve been quite impressed with the job both the disposable and reusable the dry pads do, they really clean up what the vacuum leaves behind and leave a smooth surface for mopping.

Once I know my floors are relatively dirt free, I swap the dry cleaning pad for a wet pad, fill the little Braava tank with water and floor cleaner (any cleaner works, but iRobot does make their own as well) and watch with joy as my floors get mopped through very little effort of my  own.  As an added bonus, I get the joy of watching my animals react to this mysterious moving creature in their home.  A cleaner house, amusing animal antics, and none of the sass or questionable gender politics of a Rosey?  The Braava may just be the superior cleaning robot here.
