I am typically uninterested when a friend of mine tells me to check out “their friend’s band” (okay, maybe uninterested is a little harsh, but you know what I mean), however I recently had the fortune of being introduced to a Toronto band called The Nursery, and couldn’t be happier about it. I was shown their video for a song called “Lysergically Yours”, and have had it on repeat ever since.
These guys are an indie pop circus from this fabulous city, and in a nutshell I would say they remind me of a fantastic amalgamation of The Arctic Monkeys and The Darkness, with an added dash of Modest Mouse-esque quirkiness. Since this is a mixture that you obviously need to have blasting into your earholes, I would strongly suggest giving their video a peek.
The Nursery is currently recording their next LP, which band member Alex Pulec is producing alongside Justin Rose. Splitting their time between recording at GCR Audio in Buffalo, NY and their home studio in Toronto (Audio Ritual), The Nursery has been very, very busy – and as they should be, since all kick ass bands need ass-kicking schedules.
To top off their undisputable coolness, an 8-bit style retro video game, ‘Carnival Nature’ (the name of their current LP – see what they did there?), is being created, in which their music will be remixed in chiptune style. No details on a release date just yet, but not to worry, I’ll be keeping you posted.
If you want to catch these guys live, I suggest you get yourself to The Silver Dollar on November 6th. It’ll be a ridiculous, liquor-fueled dancefest that you won’t want to miss.
