The Dry Shampoo Diaries

I have a confession to make; about 90% of the time, I am held together by a delicately balanced combination of caffeine, cannabis, and dry shampoo.

Dry Shampoo a product that I have come to rely on to get me through my daily life.  I’ve never been a daily hair washer, and now that I a) am busier and lazier than I once was (another delicate balance) and b) am very much a bottle platinum blonde, daily hair washing is just no longer accessible to my lifestyle.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dry Shampoo, it’s exactly what it sounds like: a product made to refresh the hair without having to get it wet, and, even better, having to restyle it.  It comes in multiple forms, most commonly in spray form, sometimes in powder form, containing various ingredients meant to absorb oil and odor, leaving hair volumized, refreshed and wet wash free for another day.

Again, being a busy bottle blonde who counts achieving bigger hair as a constant mission in life, dry shampoo is my jam.  As such, I’ve tried and tested more than a few of them.  And I’m sharing my findings with you today!

Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo

Cheap, cheerful and available at your nearest drug store, sometimes for under $5.00 our first option is Dove’s Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo.  The smell is light and pleasing, the spray is easy to target so you’re not disappearing in a cloud of powder with every application, and it creates the right amount of volume while leaving hair light and movable.  Brunettes take note, however, this dry shampoo’s residue is fairly white so I recommend applying before bed so it’s all absorbed by morning.  For blondes like me, bottle or otherwise, you’re good to go!

Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo

Made from a base of corn starch and enhanced by natural ingredients, No Drought from Lush is another favorite of mine.  I love this powder dry shampoo for 3 reasons: 1. it really works well 2. it smells AMAZING and 3. you can pack it in your carry on when traveling!  Powder dry shampoos, unlike those in spray form, don’t count against your liquids when you carry on so they’re great to take on trips that require packing light. It’s easy to apply and gives great volume, without the sticky dry shampoo residue some products leave behind.

Nioxin Instant Fullness Dry Shampoo

Nioxin is a line known for their scalp saving products, made to promote healthy hair growth to help users achieve beautiful hair from the inside out.  This dry shampoo works to absorb oil and leave a refreshing feeling behind, prolonging time between washes and keeping hair looking full and vibrant.  As a finer, thinner haired gal I loved knowing that this product was made for hair concerns like mine, and that I was keeping my hair healthier while getting the bigger hair I so desired.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste is the OG dry shampoo, that has now expanded their line into a wide variety of fragrances and specialized formulas for darker hair colors.  No matter your hair type, color or your taste in scent, there is a Batiste dry shampoo for you, you really can’t go wrong.  I’m a fan of their original and tropical scents myself, and highly reccomend their XXL Volume version if you’re looking to get big hair that just won’t quit.

NIUCOCO Dry Shampoo

NIUCOCO is a Canadian haircare line that prides itself on creating products that help humans look and feel our best without harming us or the planet.  NIUCOCO products are sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free, and do not contain mineral oil, PEGs, MEA, DEA, TEA, synthetic fragrances or dyes. Their products are also gluten-free, 100% vegan, and they do not test on animals.  Suffice it to say, I was obsessed with this company before even trying their products.  And considering their products are just as impressive as their company values, I am all for NIUCOCO. They are about to launch their dry shampoo and, having tested it out for myself, I can confidently say the world is going to love it.  It’s derived from coconut powder, a relief to me since I’ve had issues breaking out from dry shampoos infused with oils.  It absorbs quickly and easily, leaving no white or sticky residue, only volumized hair that smells of coconutty heaven.  And it’s powder based, meaning you can take it everywhere with you, and not even airport security can stop you.  So support a Canadian based company and give NIUCOCO a try!
