In the lead up to this weekend’s Honda Indy in Toronto, a select group of media representatives were invited out by Honda to “Tame the Track”. What does that entail, you ask? This adventure included laps in a formula F car, racing in go-karts and rally racing in the Honda Civic Si.
I starred my day off with the FORMULA F car which was a 2003 VanDiemen RF03 with a Honda Fit engine from a 2009-2013 model year, equipped with Toyo R888 tires, 185/60-13 fronts 205/50-13 rears, a 110 horsepower Engine torque 105 ft-lbs with a Hewland LD200 4 forward gears, 1 reverse gearbox.
I was so excited to run the track in that car as it was a rare experience that most people will never get to experience.
Next we moved onto the Go-Karts where the members of the media actually got to race each other in an all out battle of speed and agility. The Go Kart had a GX200 racing engine, weighed in at 140 pounds, with 6.5 horsepower, Bone stock – governor removed Locked axle, and Rear brake/ no suspension. It was a charged and rough ride which ended up being crazy fun.
For the third part of the day we did a rally in the Civic Si. I admittedly haven’t driven in the longest time, so this experience was actually the most intense test of my skills, especially since we were on a winding track and we had some pretty high speeds going.
My last experience of the day was a race lap with the awesome James Hinchcilffe (Indycar winner) and all round great guy, which was by far the most intense ride I took of the day as it was a professional behind the wheel and not me.
All is all I faired better then I thought I would and had an amazing day thanks to the fantastic team from Honda. Now I’m definitely ready to go to the Honda Indy this weekend.
