I was recently invited to take a special little trip to Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Perla with Sunwing Vacations, to which I, of course, said yes!
When the day arrived I made my way to the airport and met up with my travel companions, to board a plane and make my way to beautiful Mexico. As I made my way through the Sunwing Elite Plus Service Priority Checkin, I had a feeling my flight down would set the whole trip off on the right foot, and I was right!
With Sunwing Elite Plus you can enjoy:
- Extra leg room (35-inch seat pitch)
- Complimentary Advance Seat Selection
- Priority check-in
- Priority boarding
- Increased checked baggage allowance up to 30 kg
- Priority baggage handling
So it’s safe to say my check-in and flight down as well as back, were the perfect compliment to what would be one of the most memorable trips I’ve taken to date.
As we rolled up to the Royal Service entrance at this majestic resort, having just had one of the easiest and quickest flights down, I was ready for whatever would come next.
As we check in and were escorted to our rooms, the tropical luxury of the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen was instantly apparent. White stone, beautiful plant life, open ceilings and long clean crisp corridors greeted us along the way. As I opened my suite door, my stay would officially begin.
My room offered a rain shower and hot tub in the suite along with a king bed and sitting area. Out on the terrace was a second sitting area along with my own private Jacuzzi. The suite faced out onto one of the many pools on the property, and as it ended up being the “quiet and tranquil pool’ I spent much of my time relaxing and getting some much-needed sun there.
As the days rolled on I had time to become better acquainted with Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, and it’s very long lists of places to eat, things to see, and do.
The resort boasted 13 restaurants, many pools (2 that I swam in) along with 8 bars, one of which was the swim up in the pool closest to my room.
Paradisus Playa Del Carmen is split into two sides; one for families aka children are allowed, and the other side is adults only, which is where the single childless man aka me found myself about 90% of the time.
Along with my stay and access to this amazing resort, the Royal Service included:
- Royal Service Suites have a Jacuzzi on the terrace
- Personal butlers throughout the stay
- Bi-level air conditioned royal service lounge for private check-in/out, library, daily continental breakfast, coffee, snacks and premium beverages, international newspapers and evening cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres
- Preferential reservations for speciality restaurants, spa and activities
- Private pool and swim-up bar
- Private restaurant for breakfast and lunch
- Exclusive fitness centre for Royal Service guests (YHI Taste)
On top of my super flights, excellent ground travel and one superb resort, we also had activities thrown in to make the experience even more memorable.
Like our on-site cooking class where we learnt to make authentic Mexican dishes (featured below).
Or, the off property excursions set up by the great team at Sunwing Experiences/Nexus tours.
First, we saw a showing of Cirque Du Soleil’s Joya. A wonderful story of a grandfather and the stories he passes on to his granddaughter, Joya.
(Tickets can be bought through your Nexus Tours/Sunwing Experiences representative on-site at the hotel. There are 3 levels: Show for only $94 USD, Premium seats (our seats) for $134USD or VIP Dinner seats with Champagne for $253 USD. Transportation to the theatre is extra but well worth it!)
They also took us out on a stunning catamaran while in Mexico and if it’s a calm day on the water, we would suggest you try it too! The snorkelling was quite special, the boat was beautiful and the views were amazing.
It all just added another level to this already amazing trip, but what was the true icing on the cake, well it was the food itself. This was no regular resort when it came to really anything, but the food we had the pleasure of trying at the a-la-carte restaurants was wonderful.
Not only did I manage to have some amazing cuisine inspired from all over the world, I had some truly wonderful Mexican food, which is always a must, but what really took the food experience to a whole new level was our dinner at the hotels crown jewel, Passion. (photos featured below)
In short, this trip had it all. From the added attention of having a butler, the oh so smooth trip with Sunwing, and added excursions planned by Sunwing Experiences, to the shining star that is the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, there is really only one way to sum up this trip; perfection in paradise!
So if you are looking to make your next trip something exceptional, you should visit the good people at Sunwing and make plans to visit Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, you’ll be so happy you did.
