5 Ways to Get Moving When You Feel Like a Couch Potato

How many times have you found yourself lazing on the couch only to feel like you really should get up and move, and get some physical activity in? Just because your brain is telling you that you need to get up and move, it doesn’t mean your body wants to cooperate. Feeling like a couch potato is something that hits everyone at one time or another, so having some simple tips and tricks to follow that will break you out of the cycle is necessary.

To help you get up and moving, here are five tips you can use.

Turn Off the TV and Set Limits

Often it is the TV that keeps people firmly planted on the couch, as binge watching television series and movies has become quite the popular trend. So, with that said, it may be time to set limits and turn off the TV. Give yourself a specific amount of time you can watch TV per day or week, and then stick with that limit. There’s nothing wrong with watching TV, within reason; it’s when it becomes your main source of entertainment that it becomes a problem.

Enjoy a Backyard Sport

Sports are a fabulous hobby and pastime for many people, as they give you a way to be active while challenging yourself to really perfect your skills. As an added bonus, there are so many different sports you can do in your own backyard, making them even more accessible. It’s a way to work out and get moving without it feeling like traditional exercise.

So, which sport can you pick up? You may want to try baseball, as you can easily practice your hitting and pitching in your own yard. A pitching machine is all you need to practice your hitting skills, and people of all ages and skill level can use it. Any of these top models will do, and it may just be fun enough that it entices you to get off the couch and head to the backyard.

Make Plans with Friends

Another way to get you off the couch is to make plans with friends outside the house. That can be something as simple as going for a walk together, meeting up at a local park or hiking trail, or even strolling through a museum or art gallery. Anything that allows you to socialise in person and get out of the house is ideal.

Focus on Eating a Healthy Well-Balanced Diet

Sometimes, the lack of energy isn’t just about the fact that you are lazing around on the couch; it could be that your diet isn’t doing you any favours. Making sure you eat a healthy well-balanced diet will ensure that you have all the energy you need to get through the day.

Join a Class – Learn a New Skill or Hobby

This could also be the perfect opportunity for you to join a class so you can learn a new skill or hobby. Ideally, you want to choose an active class, something like a dance class, Yoga, kickboxing, Pilates, swimming, and so forth. Each of these activities count as exercise, but thanks to the class format, the experience is much more engaging and fun.

If you’re tired of feeling like a couch potato and that you just don’t have the energy to do anything, it’s time to embrace these tips that will help get you moving. The great news is that once you get into these activities, it won’t take long before they become a fun new habit that you look forward to.
