My skin and I are in a battle after every winter season. I love the cold and feeling cozy while I Netflix and literally chill. My skin, however, is dry and sad in central heating, the cold gusts of wind and general lack of moisture in the air.
I try to give my skin a fighting chance by drinking many litres of water and boosting my skincare routine. It is hard to find the right products to cut through the dryness. I turn to facemasks to give my skin the extra help it needs.
I tested the new Recharge Detox Face Mask from Rodan+Fields to see if it would do the trick. I have to admit I was a little skeptical. It is described as a mask that draws out impurities with charcoal and exfoliates with volcanic sand-two things that usually mean drying out your skin even more.
It also contains mango seed butter, avocado and coconut oils to inject your skin with moisture. It seemed like an odd but winning combination and I had to give it a shot.
When I opened the package I immediately noticed a light scent reminiscent of The Gap’s Oceanus. The mask feels like a dense mousse, slightly whipped and airy. A little bit goes a long way. The volcanic sand feels gritty but not harsh. I kept the mask on a bit longer than the 5-10 minutes recommended. I waited until it felt dry to the touch.
Removing the mask was a bit tricky. The mask is the deepest of blacks because of the charcoal. You definitely don’t want to be wearing white or using your nicest towels to remove this mask! As I washed the mask away, I also took the time to rub the product into my skin and exfoliate with the volcanic sand.
When the mask was fully removed, I noticed immediately how soft my skin was. The oils and butters really did moisturize my skin to give me a subtle glow. The volcanic sand did an impressive job at buffing away any lingering dry skin. I am encouraged to use it for the recommended four weeks to see if the charcoal draws out impurities.
I’m happy to have this mask in my winter rotation so I can beat the winter dryness once and for all!
