Thor, Loki, Freya. What do these names have in common, other than that fact they were Norse Gods? They are all amazing Scotch made by Highland Park.
Established in 1798 on Orkney, Highland Park is one of the most remote Scotch whiskey distilleries in the world. For over 200 years, the distillery has combined age old tradition and the very best craftsmanship to achieve near perfection.
Already having loved Thor and Loki, as well as their 10, 12, and 18 series Scotches, I was invited out to a wonderful lunch a Brassaii to taste the newest addition to the Highland Park Family, Freya.
The Highland Park Freya is a 15-yea old scotch at 51.2% ABV. Here are the specs on this delicious drink:
Color: The Fair One, Golden
Aroma: Almond and Madagascan vanilla shimmer in the distance like the Aurora Borealis. White chocolate followed by candied cherries makes way for a vibrant wave of mango and melon, riding upon a cloud of cream soda.
Taste: The heart of this whiskey shines like a jewel, surrounded by fragrant peat. Orange peel, butterscotch and rose petals provide the sweetness along with orange blossom and ginger. Lively popping candy, lemongrass and tropical fruits are lightly shrouded in peat smoke.
Finish: Complex and beautiful, yet balanced and considered like Freya herself, the finish gives lingering spice and soft peat smoke intertwined with soft orchard fruits, toasted coconut and a light char, providing a rounded depth and allowing this whiskey to soar.
Pricing and Availability: 220 bottles of Freya have been allocated to the Canadian market and the approximate retail value is $329.95.
While we know that is a pretty penny to pay for liquor, but after trying it for ourselves, we just had to tell you how much we truly enjoyed it. If you get the chance — we suggest you make the chance, actually — make sure you enjoy every last sip.
