Rhythm Spa: Relax, Rejuvenate and Recharge

In a society dominated by media images defining what “beautiful” is, how thin we should be, what we should be wearing, and what lip colours are popular this season, it’s hard to come to terms with our self perception. But beauty runs skin deep and has much more to do with how we feel than how we look, and that’s exactly the philosophy behind Rhythm Spa.

Located in downtown Toronto at 199 Church St., Rhythm spa opened its doors in 2009. Owner Maria Moses explains that deciding to be a spa owner was always about helping women be happy and comfortable in their skin by helping them maintain what they were born with.

“It was always more about how women feel than how they look because I think we’ve seen that no matter how perfect somebody is, they never feel good enough. So I think it’s all about how you feel on the inside,” Moses says. “We want to ensure that customers are happy with who they are – we just want to be able to help keep them groomed. It’s been very interesting to see how women never really appreciate themselves with what they’ve been given.”

So what is Rhythm Spa’s secret to empowering women and making them feel beautiful inside and out? Keep beauty fun and provide an environment where both men and women can escape and enter a state of blissful relaxation.

Rhythm offers many basic spa services such as manicures, pedicures, massages and waxing. They also specialize in eyebrow threading, henna tattoos, and have an infrared sauna located in the spa. One facet that sets this spa aside from many others is their decision to extend their services until midnight and give the option for women to stay overnight.

“It’s great for those women who just want to get away. It’s kind of like a home away from home if you just want to relax and be left alone. I know as a Mom and a business woman sometimes I just want to be by myself. So we’ve started extending our service until midnight so women can come in anytime, receive our services, and if they just feel like staying here they can,” explains Moses.

The spa has already set up one room equipped with a bed for a peaceful sleep, as well as a shower so women can head back to the office feeling refreshed.

Again, the whole notion behind offering these services is to boost women’s confidence in their day-to-day life.

The eyebrow henna uses a temporary dye and will last for about one to two weeks and is a great option for those who don’t want to worry about filling in their brows every day. The eyebrow wig, one of the more fascinating services provided, is made of real and synthetic hairs. Together, the client and aesthetician will select an eyebrow shape which is applied and secured with glue. The eyebrow wigs will stay attached for about a week, but are also reusable. Clients can purchase the glue from the spa and then reapply it at home all by themselves. The cost ranges anywhere between $45-60.

“We want to ensure that customers are happy with who they are. It’s a challenge, but very rewarding” Moses says. ” We need to stop taking beauty so seriously so that you don’t lose sight of who you are. We try to keep it fun and relaxed here.”
