Our NXNE 2016 Picks

Toronto music lovers rejoice! Summer festival season is in full swing, and this week North by North East is the star of the show.

Every year NXNE finds itself sprawled all over our fair city, with hundreds of bands taking over the many live music venues, be they established, pop up or takeovers. During the day aspiring artists rub elbows with industry big wigs at the various daytime parties and industry events at the interactive conferences at NXNE Future Lands.

This year, the festival is split up a little bit differently, with a lot of familiar territory being covered. NXNE Club Land takes over the landmark territory that is Yonge Dundas Square. From a Pitch Perfect inspired Acapella competition judged by the film’s star Skylar Astin (Thursday, June 16th – complete with a screening of the film!) to live E-Sports and live gaming events, the free events at YDS will be a crowd pleaser this year. and it all starts tonight!

Down by the water, the corner of Cherry and Commisioners Street will be taken over by NXNE Port Lands. Featuring hysteria inducing hip hop acts like Schoolboy Q and Ghostface Killah for the Friday lineup and awesome indie acts like Mother Mother and  Born Ruffians will represent home grown talent on the Friday.

And finally, NXNE Club Land takes over Toronto venues, filling them with amazing music for fans all over town to enjoy!  It all starts tonight, so check out our recommendations below!
