Not Getting Pregnant? Here’s When It’s Time to Seek Fertility Treatment

Every relationship has its ups and downs but it’s up to the two people in the relationship to try and work together to fix the issue. The issues that couples face can be a wide range of different things… some are easy fixes and some may require couples counselling. But a major issue that can cause a divide in a relationship or marriage is infertility.

If you and your partner have been trying to conceive and haven’t had any luck, it can be absolutely devastating. Every month that passes by and you don’t have a positive pregnancy test can make you question yourself, asking “what’s wrong with me?”

Well, it’s not necessarily that something is wrong with you, per se… but more so knowing when to go see a fertility doctor. Going to see a fertility doctor doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with you, it just means you may have some fertility issues you need to get checked out.

If you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant and have been having a hard time doing so, first do an analysis of your body to determine whether or not you need to seek fertility treatment.

Signs You Need to Seek Fertility Treatment

If You’re Over 35

If you’re trying to get pregnant and you’re over 35 years old, you’re considered “at risk” or at an “advanced maternal age.” Where did these terms come from anyway!? As if 35 is the new old! Well, in all honesty, 35 years of age isn’t old, but your chances of conceiving start to drop around that age.

Science tells us that as a woman ages, her egg supply decreases over time and 35 is the age where a woman’s egg supply REALLY starts to decrease. If you’re 35, give yourself six months to conceive, and if nothing happens, then seek a fertility specialist like Cryos International.

If You Have Irregular Periods

Some people look at irregular periods as “normal,” and they’re not. Lots of women certainly have irregular periods, but it’s definitely not normal, but more so common. And despite it being common that lots of women have irregular periods, it could actually be a much bigger sign of an undiagnosed fertility issue. If irregular periods are “normal” or common with you, you might need to seek a fertility specialist to see why your cycles are irregular.

If You’re Overweight or Underweight

Your weight or body mass index (BMI) plays a significant role in your chances of pregnancy. You can’t be too heavy and you don’t want to be underweight either… it’s all about your hormonal balance.

If you have a BMI under 18 or over 30 you are at a much higher risk for infertility issues. Consult with your doctor to determine your BMI and you can see whether you need to lose or gain weight to achieve a healthier BMI.

If You Have a Thyroid Condition

Your thyroids are directly connected to your hormones so when your thyroids aren’t working properly, your likelihood of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy may be impacted as well. Fortunately, there are thyroid medications that can be used to treat your thyroid condition that will not harm you or your baby, according to parents.com.

If You’re Healthy and Under the Age of 35

If you’re a healthy young couple, it can take you up to a year to get pregnant. It really is all about timing. Some doctors try to recommend being on birth control for a year first to regulate cycles but it’s not necessary or crucial to do so.

Some women like to track their cycles with a period tracker they can download to their phones. It will give you cycle predictions and show you when you’re in your luteal phase and the days of your highest chances to get pregnant. But if you’re healthy and have tried to conceive during your most fertile times, it may be high time you consider seeing a fertility specialist.

If You’re Experiencing Any of These Signs…

Some of these signs are fixable like safely gaining or losing weight to enhance your chances of conceiving. But certain things like having a thyroid condition or being over the age of 40 are things you may need some assistance within conceiving.

If you fall into any of these categories, you need to seek help from a fertility specialist. They’ll be able to run tests and determine the best fertility option for you. Then the next thing you know, you’ll be looking up the best skincare tips to follow while pregnant!

You just have to be patient throughout the entire process. It may be emotionally draining but you just have to remain patient and hopeful. Your fertility specialist with is with you every step of the way.
