Non- U.S Artists Sweep the Hot 100

For a country with a giant population and a staked line-up of A-list singers and artists the U.S sure isn’t feeling the love on the Top 100 this year.

In fact it’s now been 34 weeks that US born artists have been “Locked Out” of the coveted top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and while I find it quite odd, along with a lot of other media who are surly reporting the same this week, I must admit as a Canadian boy, I’m always happy to see some home grown talent ride the wave.

Over the last 34 weeks the top spot has been taken 6 times by Justin Bieber with his hits, What do you mean?, Sorry, and most resently Love yourself, and by The Weekend who held the number one spot for a total of 9 weeks with Can’t feel my face, and The hills.

It seems that Great Britan and Canada have pretty much cemented the deal with Adele and Zayn (formerly or one direction) have filled the majority of other weeks at number one with a combined total of 11 weeks.

Currently “Work” by rhianna and Drake sits a top the charts but Drake is also Canadian and she is from the bahamas.

Will next week bring another non-us number one? I guess we will just have to wait and find out.
