Creating cocktails with Bacardi Anejo Cuatro on National Rum Day

In the 21st century there literally seems to be a Holiday for everything. Pancakes, doughnuts; all the carbs have their own day, so having a National Rum Dayisn’t that weird if you think about it. In fact, it’s actually more legit than any carb loaded day of worship, as it dates back to the 17th century.

Essentially rum was created, sort of by accident (as many good inventions are), when plantation workers discovered how to ferment and distill molasses. You might be saying, “Well, that seems obvious,” but at the time molasses was a byproduct of making sugar and considered waste.

What also might not seem so obvious about rum, is the number of incredible concoctions you can make with it. With it’s smooth sweetness, a great rum compliments many different ingredients and flavors, making it perfect for cocktails.  We’re newly obsessed with BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro for our rum cocktail needs.  Barrel-aged for a minimum of eight years with a velvety, rich texture, you’re going to ask yourself why Añejo Cuatro hasn’t been one of your go-to’s sooner.  You can pair it with every meal or try a new cocktail recipe when you need a little extra oomph to relax.

Rum was born out of necessity after all, so let it be useful and get started on these yummy recipes we’ve crafted for you to celebrate #NationalRumDay.

Take it Healthy: Peanut Butter, Rum, Banana Smoothie

Start a weekend brunch with this Rum infused power smoothie and feel healthy (and relaxed) AF.

  • 1 frozen banana cut into large chunks
  • 1 cup preferred nut milk or other
  • 1 ounce BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro rum
  • ½ cup yogurt or dairy-free alternative
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder

Blend to desired texture, and serve in a tall glass.

*Optional: add maple syrup or your favorite flavor protein powder for extra sweetness, and chia and/or hemp seeds for extra heartiness.

Take it Fancy: Rum Cherry Cola

Whether you’re unwinding after work, at a bbq, or just need a break, this Rum Cherry Cola is an elevated version of an old favorite.

  • ¾ oz cherry heering or syrup (fresh cherries will do in a pinch)
  • 1 full can of Coca-Cola
  • BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro rum
  • ½ cup ice
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • Couple dashes of cherry or vanilla bitters
  • Garnish with cherry (optional)

Blend ingredients, serve in a tall, milkshare style glass for fun.

*Protip: Freeze ¾ can of coke and place remaining coke in fridge to chill. Once coke is completely frozen, blend all ingredients to avoid blender explosions

 

Take it Naked: On the Rocks

If you’ve had an incredibly busy day, or just need a nightcap, keep it simple and enjoy BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro on the rocks.

  • 2 ounces BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro
  • Ice to taste

Serve in a rocks glass.
