Loving the Lazys – Interview and Toronto show

Don’t be fooled by The Lazys name – these Australian rockers are anything but. After blowing musical minds in Toronto during Canadian Music Week, the band is back with a self titled album , their Canadian debut, and are about to head out on a cross Canada tour with some of the biggest names in Can-rock music.

While The Lazys may be the band’s Canadian debut, Leon Harrison (vocals), Matt Morris (guitar), Glen Williams (bass), Jay Braslin (drums) and Liam Shearer (guitar) have been hammering at musical success in their home of New South Wales for years. Formed in 2007, the Lazys have already released three EPs and a full-length album, Prison’s Earth (2010) and have worked with legendary Australian producers Phil McKellar and Matt Lovell (Grinspoon, Silverchair).  Their track record for impressive collaboration partners continued in Canada, with Ian D’sa (Billy Talent) and John-Angus and Colin MacDonald (The Trews) each co-writing a track with the band, and the legendary GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Nickelback, Mötley Crüe) picking up the production slack.  But the Lazys aren’t a band to simply rely on slick production to sell their music – it’s their live performance that really seals the deal.  The Lazys make hard and fast rock music, but most of all they make it FUN, and it’s clear that they have just as much fun as their audience while they’re at it.  A little Strokes, a lot of AC/DC and a TON of hair, the Lazys blew my mind at their Toronto show, as they’re sure to continue doing on all of their dates.

Check out my interview with the band right here, and scroll down for tour dates and photos from their Toronto show at Danforth Music Hall.
