King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard come out with Quarters

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are just as psychedelic as their name implies, and they’re no strangers to experimentation. The group of Australian eccentrics have come up with a novel musical release idea:  a 12” of four songs, each 10 minutes and 10 seconds long, accompanied by a mind melting painting of four different worlds melding together.

Not quite an EP and not quite an LP, Quarters is a mellow and meandering musical journey, over the course of 40 minutes and 40 seconds. “Infinite Rise” is a groovy ride through an imaginary hippy commune, flowers along a path and a warm glow on your face. “God Is In The Rhythm” brings to mind lounging in dark smokey rooms, reclining on Moroccan cushions and watching lava lamps make their floaty magic. At 10 minutes per track, the band has plenty of room to stretch out around the songs, and they do so with loose limbs and stoned smiles. Altogether it feels like it flies in on dragonfly wings, lazily basks in the sun for a bit, and follows the sunset over the horizon.

This record will physically emulate its musical intentions with a special Drawn and Quartered edition – the colored vinyl will be quarter pie-slices of Translucent Red, Opaque Grimace Purple, Translucent Ice Blue, and black, and the artwork will be a custom designed poster of the full artwork that folds into a gatefold jacket for the record, and opens up to a 24” x 24” poster of the art on one side and the lyrics on the other. It’ll only be available from the webstore at Castleface Records ( Head over to the website and sign up for the mailing list so you can get your copy.  If you like what you hear, make sure to check out the band when they come Toronto on their upcoming tour. They’ll be right here on June 16th at Adelaide Hall. See you there!
