Intro to Inland: The future of accessories with GAMENT

Calling all Toronto shopping lovers; INLAND starts tomorrow and you definitely want to be there.

INLAND is Canada’s largest shopping event, bringing together established brands, up and coming designers and incredible talent from all across the Canadian fashion industry. Now in its 10th year,  INLAND connects shoppers and industry directly with over 70 of Canada’s must-have emerging fashion and accessory brands from all over Canada.

INLAND takes place Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, 2019 at  Toronto’s QRC West at 134 Peter Street.  In anticipation, we’re featuring 3 amazing brands that will be showcasing their wares to fashion lovers and shoppers alike at INLAND next week.  Our second feature is jewelry brand GAMENT.

GAMENT was founded by Catherine Kouris in 2016.  With years of experience in the luxury goods and jewelry industries, Catherine found herself inspired by 3D Printing technology and its potential to create everything she needed to launch her own jewelry collection. So that’s exactly what she did.

GAMENT is an acronym for the word MAGNET, both strong words that represent an innovative new brand.   Based in the historic Fashion District of Montreal, every GAMENT piece is crafted in their studio, and inspired by geometry, architecture, and nature.  Modern in style and in inception, GAMENT is proof of how ingenuity and fashion can come together to create something fabulous.

We got the chance to chat with Catherine just before the brand’s appearance at INLAND this weekend.   Read all about it below.

What brought you to the fashion industry?

The fashion bug caught me very early. As a child I had very strong opinions about what I would and would not wear. My very first job was in retail and aside from a brief stint in travel, I’ve worked in fashion or jewellery ever since.

How would you describe your personal style?

Very basic actually, I think that’s why I was always so obsessed with jewellery. I tend to wear a lot of black and white, so accessories are how I like to dress up my outfits.

How would you describe your line/brand?

I like to describe GAMENT as modern classic. Through 3D Printing I can create the jewellery I always wanted to wear.

What do you love most about working in fashion?

My favourite part of working in the fashion industry is the amazingly talented people I get to meet and surround myself with. I am continually discovering new brands and ideas because of the amazing network of Canadian creatives.

What is the best piece of style advice you’ve ever received?

Go for quality over quantity.  I find today in the fashion world it’s very easy to get caught up with the new and what’s trendy, which results in a lot of waste.  I try to buy fewer pieces that will last.
