Innovative Skincare products to carry you into fall

Despite what Marie Kondo says, minimalism is not a trend that has hit the skincare industry.  There is a product out there for just about every concern one may have and a very many one never realised even existed.  Indulging in skincare maximalism is a purely recreational endeavor, and a gathering of luxurious and innovative products is a practice that can give joy to many, myself included.  And there’s no better time than a changing of the seasons to indulge in another skincare related endeavor: product curiosity.

I’ve been having some fun trying out some new products that are made to help your skin look and feel its best, and I wanted to share my findings with you.

Hadaka Blackhead Facial Mask

Does anyone else remember when the black charcoal peeling mask was all the rage? There were versions of it being sold in every corner of the internet.  It was all the rage that is until multiple users posted videos of their experiences with the masks in fits of rueful, pained laughter as they tried to remove the product, finding it far stickier than any facial product had a right to be.  Many of those masks were later revealed to contain all manner of un-skincare-like substances that gave them their torturous texture. But for someone who loves a good tactile skincare experience as much as the next gal (Biore Pore strips anyone??) I lamented and wished that a real skincare company would come out with a version of this mask that I could try for myself.  Well, one finally has, and it’s Hadaka.

Their Blackhead Facial Mask gives that same satisfying peel texture, some exfoliation and a tingly clean feeling, without removing the top 3 layers of your epidermis.  Even better, this company is based right here in Canada and pride themselves on their ethical and sustainable practices.  Check them out here.

Arbonne Advanced® Lifting and Contouring V-Lift Gel

As I close in on 4 decades on this planet, my skincare goggles have turned to products that promise to lift and tone, to help me recapture the plump bloom I never appreciated in my twenties.  Applied on a clean face before any other products, this gel from Arbonne gives an instant feeling of tightness and plumping and sits invisibly under the rest of your routine.  Its dual-action formula supports collagen production while instantly tightening skin’s appearance with algae and peony root extracts.

L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum

Serums get a lot of hype in the skincare world but all that matters to me is that luxurious feeling I get when I use a great one.  This overnight serum form L’Occitane uses Marjoram Extract, Acmella Oleracea Extract, andImmortelle Essential Oil to hydrate, treat and renew the skin overnight.  After applying it to a clean face and letting it do its thing overnight, I wake up with a happier face that feels cared for, which is really the best part of a great skincare routine.

Alumier Retinol Resurfacing Serum 0.25

Exfoliation is key to a fresh complexion, but sometimes a good old facial scrub just doesn’t quite cut it.  That’s why eventually one must turn to a chemical exfoliant like this Resurfacing serum from Alumier.  Depending on your tolerance to a retinol product you can either use it daily or you can work your way up to daily use. But the idea is building up that tolerance to exfoliate your skin regularly and achieve a smoother, more supple feeling surface free of the gunk that’s holding your face back.  This product strikes a fine balance between gentle and effective and I love the way my skin feels after regular use.  Protip:  rub the excess product from applying to your face onto rough elbows or knees to make them softer too!

Biossance Squalane+Peptide Eye Gel

I’ve searched my whole life for a product that can help rid me of my inherited dark under eye circles.  As part of that search I’ve learned that no product can rid me of something I was born with, but this eye cream can pass for several extra hours of sleep in a bottle.  With its light texture this eye gel sinks right into the delicate under eye area.  Protip:  if you want to send your soul to the spa for a few moments, massage this gel above your eyes across your brow bone, below your eyes or wherever feels good and indulge in some skincare self care.
