How to Make Your Music Go Viral as a Small Artist

When first setting out in a music career, you probably find yourself dreaming of hit records, winning awards, sold-out tours where you play some of the biggest and most-coveted stadiums on the planet.

Realistically, this is a ways off. Many small artists have found their plans brought to a halt – much like the rest of us – because of the impacts of Covid-19 on the music industry.

Since we can’t travel at present, nor can we attend concerts or gig venues. There doesn’t seem to be much opportunity to showcase your talents or work. But this could not be further from the truth.

Through the powers of the internet and social media, there are things that you can do to spread your music far and wide, and this includes going viral as a small artist. If this is something that you are interested in doing in the coming weeks and months, read on for more!

Use Social Media to Your Advantage:

Social media has revolutionised how we spend our time online. With an estimated 3.81 billion people using social media in some way since its inception, there is no surprise that this is a tool that many use when attempting to go viral. Mainly, with the creation of more creative platforms, including the likes of TikTok, there is an increased opportunity to go viral with your music. By encouraging others to use your music, you reach a wider audience, which leads us to the next point.

TikTok is an excellent platform for creating videos to promote yourself, but even better, when others use your music in their videos, tagging back to your original sound. On top of that, you can make 15 – 30 second clips of your music, vocal, instrumental and utilise them as well.

Further than spreading your vibe and music, the key to online promotion is to know your brand. That means highlighting your best bits and knowing what you, your brands and your music stand for and what you’re trying to convey.

Take your time, be creative, and don’t be afraid to showcase your music and who you are as a music maker.

Never Be Afraid to Ask for Help:

Another vitally important thing, if you find that you need some help, guidance, or assistance with the task you are faced with, there is nothing wrong with asking for help from others. Whether you reach out to prospective artists to collaborate with or seek help from digital music marketing agencies like Now Listen PR, they are there for a reason and are there to help you. Using resources like these, you will be reaching a whole new fanbase and have your music put playlists on streaming apps such as Spotify and Tidal. What better way of getting your music to go viral than that?!

Nowadays, we live in a world of crowdfunding and start-ups, which means that not only do you have to build a great professional network around you, one must also build a strong following, and both require a lot of help, trust me, I should know.

Be Confident in Your Abilities:

Finally, being confident when reaching out to agencies and other artists will make you appear more desirable to work with. While it is only natural to experience nerves and anxiety when doing things out of your comfort zone, it is vital to remain confident in your abilities throughout. You needn’t worry about fitting in with a specific genre or sound, for there are thousands of different sounds out there. Be confident that a group of people on the planet is interested in hearing what you have to share.

The same goes for being an artist or musician. Be confident, work hard, showcase more than just your music, and, be sure to stay active and engaged along the way.

On a final note, most genuinely successful people I’ve met, chatted with and interviewed over the years weren’t necessarily the best at what they did. That includes many musicians; they were often just the ones that never gave up no matter what. So, remain resilient in the face of adversity and push through the rejections – while that may be difficult – with each no, you get no one step further to getting a yes!
